The Intercities-Nuits (or whatever it's called) service to Latour-de-Carol drops portions off at both Bordeaux and Toulouse-Montaubiau. I used this service last autumn, during which time the portion for Perpignan (which serves Rodez IIRC) wasn't operating due to engineering works.
The speed at which the shunt moves took place on the return journey was quite alarming, especially as the glass end doors on the coaches gave an excellent front-row view of the process!

I can see the Austerlitz - Rodez Intercites de nuit for dates in late October and mid November on en.oui.sncf
Thanks for this. It seems the trains don't run every night? I was looking at Thursdays and for some reason they don't seem to run then? Also (even more oddly, as you'd think it would be the most popular) they don't seem to run to Toulouse on Fridays.
This is extremely interesting - but I can't find tickets/journeys that suggest that it goes to Bordeaux.

The main service service runs to Portbou via Limoges, dropping the Rodez / Albi portion off at Brive la Gaillarde (when it runs), and the Latour de Carol portion at Toulouse. There has been a lot of engineering work on the Rodez line recently due to the poor state of the track - not sure if it has been finished. No overnight services to Bordeaux now unfortunately.

It ran via Bordeaux and sat in the station for a period, I may be mistaken about portions being dropped/added as I was at the rear of the front portion in both directions. As you say, it doesn't appear that tickets to Bordeaux can be purchased so perhaps the stop was for operational reasons and/or was a diversion from the usual route? Or the route has been changed in the last 12 months.
Either that or I was in fact in a different large station in a different city, and my phone's GPS had gone a bit haywire!
According to my copy of the "European Rail Timetable" (Summer 2019 edition) there is a 22.08 from Paris Austerlitz arriving in Rodez at 06.17. It comes with the footnote "For days of running and confirmed timings please consult the SNCF journey planner www.oui.sncf/billet-train"
Most likely explanation (as in UK) is engineering works, meaning revised timings haven't been released for the date you want. Diversion via Bordeaux perhaps?

It seems that the service runs on almost random days, which is why the European Rail Timetable says you should consult the journey planner.
When I looked in November, on one week it ran on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and not Saturday, but the following week didn't run on Friday but ran on Saturday, etc.

Have you allowed for public holidays affecting this (Friday 1st and Monday 11th?) just a thought, may not be relevant.

Generally they seem to be on Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays in November. But then when I got to December 11-12, right up to the end of the current timetable period, suddenly they re-appeared running on Wednesday and Thursday!
