Can anybody explain what this is and how it works? Had several services in recent months left in this mode and caused issues and delays whilst it is rectified.

Thanks.

When arriving at destination on diesel (say penzance) driver will put the train into turnaround mode. On a 9 car this will shut down all but 2 engines, and on a 5 car it will shut down all but 1 engine. This is to prevent noise and wasted fuel. 5 minutes before departure , driver should then switch on all engines again, but as there is no indication in the cab when train is in turnaround mode, it has been missed by some drivers and they have tried to pull away on one engine. This can be quickly rectified on the move by restarting all engines as soon as he realises his error, however in some cases the computer says no and engines need to be tripped out and reset causing delays.

Sounds like something that could do with an obvious indicator

Yes, your not the first person to suggest that!! Although I will say we are all getting better, I did it myself once last year when new to them but not since, so hopefully it's a problem that will gradually fade away

Why is there not something on the TMS (Train Management System) to highlight the fact. Even on Class 221s built 18 years ago have an indication if one or more of the engines is not running, especially useful now as when no drivers key in a desk, the engines auto shutdown in a set sequence.
