Top-and-tail 3 coach train just went up past Cathays, wonder if they're clearing them for Treherbert...?
By turning, do you mean turning the wheels / giving it a run? If they wanted to turn the stock to rotate loco/carriage positions wouldn't they have had to go via Penarth Curve South Jn (which RTT implies it didn't)?Either turning the stock for some reason or a Test Run

Yeah, my question!According to TFW Twitter it was in connection some element of driver training
Fair enough. The exact reason isn't that important. (My contrary brain just found a way to misinterpret what you said, and got itself confused. )According to TFW Twitter it was in connection some element of driver training
It was to even out flange wear.Fair enough. The exact reason isn't that important. (My contrary brain just found a way to misinterpret what you said, and got itself confused. )
Yeah, my head wasn't screwed on properly, and thought that Central - Queen st - Radyr - Ninian Pk - Central wouldn't have turned the train, and that it would have had to go round two sides of the triangle at Penarth Curve. It was to even out flange wear.
Has something about the track changed since they last ran? The brake vans were always at the south end of the formations so clearly they were never turned between 1997 and 2006.It was to even out flange wear.

Yes that's true although they only did that for a year or two. Perhaps it's the locos that need turning? Back in the day, the EWS 37s would go to Manchester, Birmingham or Weymouth, or disappear on a freight rather than stick to the Rhymney line for months on end. They also had a run out to Fishguard during the day which might have changed things?
Hi guys, just signed up to forum. Hoping to see the 37s at Lisvane station this afternoon. Anyone know what times they come through please?
Welcome aboard! RTT currently showing them going north from Lisvane at 17:16 and 18:01 this evening

Ps are those the times leaving Cardiff or at Lisvane please. Which codes are the services that the 37s are running?
Do the 37s spend the weekend stabled at Rhymney, or do they run ECS to and from Cardiff? Thanks
Hello everyone,
This thread seems very quiet lately...
Does anyone know if there is another thread regarding the 37s on the Rhymney line?
Also could there be websites where up-to-date information can be found regarding the loco allocations and their status?
Thanks,
Paul
It was certainly out on Friday on the trainer. 025 top.and tailed with 418 were at Cardiff around 1600 heading for CantonI know according to gen put on Facebook 37025 hasn't been out for a while and 37418 has had issues last week but 37421 was out in service on the rhymney
37421 has continued working each morning and evening.37421 was on the 1701 on Wednesday, but when I headed back towards Cardiff I'm pretty sure the 1746 was a Pacer.
