First of all u need to make yourself calm a bit down. Nervousness won't help u, rather you should focus on practice more and more and self-confident.

Hi, Can someone confirm would it be only high and low tones in actual Tea-Occ part one test? where we have to choose one type of it or would be more than two types of mix tones to choose?

Part 1 - Low & High. Always starts with a low tone. Count the low tones.

Part 2 - No tones, directory search only.

Part 3 - Directory search and low tones only. Count tones and search directory.

Tones do not change 'type'.

Thanks..so would it be only two type of tones (low and high) and not any other distraction tones of different pitch in part one?

Correct, just low & high tones in part 1. All the same type for each question, tone sound does not differ.

You get a practice first so you can familiarise yourself with the sound.

Hello All

I was wondering for the TEA-OCC assessment do we count both high and low tones or just strictly the low tones?

I recently passed stage 1. In the first part of this test you only count low tones. Ignore the lift bit. You only write down how many low tones you hear. Count them on your fingers. The next part is just finding matching symbols. Ignore all numbers of words. The third part is only one tone. Count all beeps and circle all matching symbols. I found this the easiest test but before I went I was dreading it. I didn’t get to the end of page but still passed.

When you say the lift part does that mean the high tone?

You only count the low tones which is the first tone you hear. Just ignore the whole lift story. It will distract you. Just write down the number of low tones you have counted.

Exactly this. The story is just there to confuse you. First tone you hear is the low tone, just count those

Evening all

For this exam do we mark just purely the double symbols regardless of whether it's a cafe or restaurant etc or just the plumbers with the double symbols.

Many thanks

Hi.

As stated beforehand this forum is a great resource & thank you to all who have documented the examination process on here.

I have also failed on the TEA-OCC test; however passing all the other elements for stage 1 train driver. I now have a second chance to sit the stage 1 with GWR.

From previous I recall being unclear with the instruction on what I should be marking up on part 2 of the TEA-OCC test (the directory search) . I remember seeing various trades and restaurants on the answer sheet but looking for plumbers within a certain postal area and some matching symbols.

Has anyone sat test recently with GWR?

It would be good to clarify this part of the exam and exactly what I should be looking out for. I know this thread states "matching symbols only" however -does this mean that you completely negate the type of business and/or the area codes attached to each one?

Im just looking for some clarity and anything that will help to prepare me for this particular exam.

Congratulations to any successful candidates

I recently sat the TEA-OCC for a FOC and on my test they asked us to match the symbols only as all of the business's listed on the sheet were all the same (for example, restaurants) and they wanted us to find the ones that had 4 stars as their symbol as an example.

You say you were unclear on the instruction last time so I would strongly recommend that if you find yourself in this position again this time around that you ask for clarity on the day as the assessors are more than happy to help you before the test starts.

Good Luck.

Thank you for the replies!

I'm gradually feeling a bit more comfortable with the TEA OCC practice material I'm looking at.

As stated before OPC informed me the other elements were passed so I'm just praying I can perform on the day. It was less than a year ago I sat the stage 1 so some of the tests are still familiar.

Yours is a typical example of why I like to hammer home the ‘look for the symbols only’ as you passed everything except, in my opinion, the easiest test of the whole thing due to not being clear on what exactly you had to do.

- Part 1 is symbols only
- Part 2 is counting the low (I think?) tones
- Part 3 is part 1 + 2 simultaneously

It should be a very short day for you this time round, all the best.

Hi,

I got a TEA-Occ coming up on Thursday. The practice material I got sent is helpful with familiarisation but that’s about it. What is this directory task?

Am I looking for two symbols next to numbers that match and Ignore all the phone numbers?

That’s right, you don’t really need any practice material, just know that you have to look for the double symbols and that is all.

Once you have it in front of you it will be easy.

There are three parts to it and the second part will be listening to a series of high and low tones, you need to count the low tones.

Then part three is listening to another series of high and low tones, you need to count the low tones whilst circling all the double symbols again.

All the best.
