Which do you think are really well managed stations on the network, and why?
I'm going to start by nominating Ely. Busy interchange and junction station, but always plenty of staff around. Staff always seem very cheery and friendly and look after people needing assistance well.
Plenty of clear, concise and practical manual announcements are made which are needed with eg arrivals departing as ECS from a platform a few minutes before a service to London, surprising numbers of people start boarding before they are told not to.
I quite like the quirky whiteboard on platform 1 which will either have some quotations or hand drawn cartoon strip on it.
It's not the biggest station in the world by any means, but it's very busy and despite that seems to work very well.

I would go for Stockport. Clean station, plenty of staff around. Several comfy waiting rooms for a fairly small station. Mains sockets available for public use and I think usb too, features not available at much larger stations e.g Manchester Piccadilly.

If I am not mistaken they have plug sockets and USB borts in the Platform 13/14 Lounge and on the main concourse now

Took the words from me there. Was going to say Ely first & foremost. Everything from announcements to flowers & general cleanliness.

Of the larger stations I would say York.

Between the parallel lines
Tonbridge has always struck me as pretty well-run. Lots of staff who seem to know their stuff, the station is in a perfectly reasonable state of repair, and they seem to have a good rapport with colleagues across the area.

I will also give Ely my vote. I work through a lot of stations and they're amongst the best on the network. A good mix of youth and experience on the station staff and they obviously take a lot of pride in their work and their station.

Stoke on Trent is pretty good as well for a station in a fairly challenging area.

Another vote for Ely here - the posters above have put it better than I could. Also, impressive coffee shop to platform ratio and I do like the new herb garden.

I use Swindon fairly regularly, and have never had any cause to complain at all. It seems well-run, clean and efficient.
