There are several closed threads on this subject. Can anyone tell me if Transport for Wales is offering the Club 55 ticket, as I can't find anything on their website. I've bought these tickets from Arriva Trains Wales and, as it is not specifically an Arriva offer, I hoped TfW would be continuing it. The ticket I bought last year coincided with the whole fleet of 175s being "grounded" with wheelset problems!

No reponse to this so I'll report on my e-mail from TfW, which states they will not be offering Club 55, no reason given (perhaps shortage of stock?) TPE is apparently continuing it but so far no dates on their website.

It's a shame to lose it as it could mean a good saving, especially for 55-59 year olds. However the combination of increased fares and a bar on most weekday travel before 9.30am reduced its usefulness and made Club 55 day return leisure trips like South Wales to Holyhead or to Porthmadog certainly for me much less appealing.

In past years, we used the ATW Club 55 offer for days out, travelling from Wilmslow station to Hereford, making a good price saving.

TransPennine Express are currently running their own Club 55 offer and we have booked standard class day returns from Manchester Piccadilly to Durham on Saturday 4th May. We obtained a 20% discount off the standard Club 55 price of £22.00 as we are holders of the 3-year Senior Citizen Railcards.

Club 50 is currently available on Transport for Wales for persons aged 50 and over.
https://tfwrail.wales/club50

Club 50 tickets are on sale until 24 November 2019. Outward travel is only permitted on the date shown on the ticket. The Return journey must take place within 8 days, the first day being the outward travel date printed on the ticket. The last day of sale and outward travel will be Sunday 24 November 2019 inclusive and all return travel must be completed by 04:29 on 2 December 2019.

Travel using a Club 50 ticket is not permitted before 0930 Monday to Friday. There are no travel restrictions* on weekends or bank holidays. *Club 50 tickets cannot be used for return journeys to/from or via Cardiff on Saturday 30 November due to a major sporting event taking place.

I've got one of these tickets for tomorrow, Manchester to Holyhead. Hope it will be more successful than my recent efforts to cover the Heart of Wales line, the first scuppered by a storm which brought trees down and the second when all the 175s were "grounded" with wheelset problems!

An unpromising start to my trip, with all trains through Man Picc 13/4 delayed or cancelled this morning, because of a points failure. I had gone for the 0953 loco-hauled Holyhead train, which eventually left 31 late. A full train as far as Chester with smartly-dressed punters for Chester races. We made up 9 minutes by Holyhead and the return working left on time. I travelled back in stages later in the afternoon.

The TfW website doesn't make it clear whether you can only buy Club 50 tickets at a TfW ticket office or also at any other operator's ticket office at a station served by TfW.

If you can only get them at a TfW ticket office, then that's no use if, say, you live in Birmingham and want to get to Aberystwyth or you live in Manchester and want to get to Llandudno, and you're not computer literate and you don't have any family or friends who are tech savvy and could book it for you. There could potentially be lots of over-50s in that situation.

Got mine at Manchester Oxford Road, no problems.

Anyone else noticed that the £29 offer is not offered for all TfW journeys?

Chester to Cardiff is offered at £29 but Chester to Treherbert is not even though all TfW.

I’ve brought this up with TfW via Twitter

Has to be done on the TfW App, which isn't available for Mac, so I have downloaded it on my iPhone. Going through the process and it is asking for promotion code. Have tried CLUB50 (it defaults to caps) but apparently that's incorrect. Can't seem to find the correct code. They don't make it easy, do they? :|

It works for me on the website. I chose Open Return and an off-peak time for my outward journey and was offered the Club 50 fate alongside the normal ones.

Nope, still not seeing the Club 50 Offer. I'm looking at Hereford to Prestatyn, out 27th Nov, return 29th Nov. 4 adults all with senior railcards. (I already have tickets but wanted to see if I could have got them cheaper!).

Yes, I've noticed - coincidentally also a Treherbert trip. I tried to book Crewe - Treherbert, but TfW offered no Club 50 fares. Then I tried Manchester Piccadilly - Treherbert, and the fares were offered!
Since then, I've been looking at a Rhymney day out, again from Crewe, without luck. This time the MAN trick hasn't worked.

Clearly not all Club 50 fares have been entered into the fares database.

I imagine ticker offices would override the fare, or the guard or the excess fares staff at Cardiff Central would issue a zero-fare excess?

As I mentioned on the previous thread on this topic you taffs are being undersold on the Club 50 front compared to us jocks.

In Scotland it's £17 return between any two stations between 13th September and November - they do this promotion 3 times a year.

Plus you get 20% reduction on off peak and half price tea and coffee.

It does cost £15 year though !!
