Hello all,
I was just wondering, are there any traction manuals for modern units/engines available in some form on the internet for people to look through? I have a keen interest in this topic and was just wondering if there was such a thing available.
I already know of:
http://www.locodocs.co.uk/
Which is very good for older locomotives.
I also know that there are a lot of older manuals for sale on eBay, but is there a place where one could innocently find them online?
The answer is probably no, isn't it?

Modern Traction manuals I wouldn't have thought would be online for obvious reasons. However... as you say a lot of older traction have the working instructions, static duties etc. booklets are available on a certain well known auction site.
From time to time more modern ones appear (currently there are voyager and pendolino ones on) due to retirees, company movers clearing the decks.
I cannot speak for all companies but ours are now more internal on our tablets, hence if you need to know anything its a swipe or tap away

Thanks for the info - I know of the Virgin manuals you are on about!
I'll keep looking on this auction site, then...

I think I’ve got a couple somewhere that a friend who worked for EWS gave me. I’ll have a look tomorrow, I think I’ve got one for an 08 and something else.

Interesting!

-Peter
Aha. I had a bit more than I thought I had...
This is an EWS train crew manual pictured with the index page.
It covers various different things on all sorts of traction - including 325s, sandite fitted 37s, 47s, 92s etc.

Then in another folder I’ve got drivers/ train crew manuals for classes 59 and 60 here:

And then a really nice one of classes 08 and 09.

Yep.
If you need an 08 hot-wired for a quick getaway, I’m your man...
Definitely! Having been through the town and down the exact street where they filmed the 14xx on the road in Titfield Thunderbolt, I may need it! :)

That’s such a great bit of filming.
They used a truck which they mocked up to a near perfect version of a 14xx for that.
The enormous “DONG!” as it crashes into the tree is wonderful...

Looking through those manuals though makes me wonder if I could get a class 66 started and moving (in a parallel universe with no consequences of course)?

Yes quick!
(While I thoroughly read appendix 6b - on how to prime the auxiliary fuel pump in minus 10 degree temperatures on the third weekend of a leap year).

Railcar has manuals for most classes of first generation diesel multiple units.

I've also just found another three manuals for the Class 313 on eBay, for about £10:

British Rail train Crew manuals class 313 trains.
in mint condition

I assume this is the whole collection of the Class 313 Manuals?

Does anyone know of any manuals for the class 365 which are available?
I've done a quick Google and eBay search and can't find anything. What I've found to be best is just looking and looking on eBay - I found a Class 321 and old BR 253/254 manual on there on Sunday! :)

Yes, I'll just keep an eye on the eBay listings and see if one pops up.

Sorry I can't help with more information. I've found that British Rail Train Crew Manuals appear more often than modern manuals, so you may find yourself finding some older ones quicker.

If anyone is interested, I managed to buy a Class 253/254 manual and Class 321 manual on eBay (along with the BR Pink Pages) the other day. All for very reasonable prices. :) I've even got a EWS Advice Book thing on the way as well (thanks for the help @Cowley :))

Excellent, well done Peter.
Any chance of a couple of screenshots from the HST manuals..?
