Im sure there was a pair of 801s 5 cars in service a few days ago on a return trip from Leeds to Kings Cross.

That was a preview / rehearsal service for staff / invited guests (although it appears that a handful of 'normal' passengers may have been allowed on board) - 1145 Leeds to Kings Cross / 1503 Kings Cross to Leeds on Thursday.

It seems likely that most if not all of the 12 801/1s have completed their acceptance tests as they have been parked at Tyne Yard and testing has moved onto 800/2s.

801/1s apparently start formally on Monday 16 September which is the date from which they can start being 'ticked off' by those interested.

From the LNER booking engine it looks like from that date the first 10-car workings are planned to be:

1A06 0640 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1B82 1006 London Kings Cross to Newark North Gate
1B83 1156 Newark North Gate to London Kings Cross
1D18 1433 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1A43 1714 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1D31 2003 London Kings Cross to Leeds

Note that the platform numbers at Kings Cross in the open data feed don't yet reflect 1A06 working 1B82 but the LNER booking engine is more likely to be correct.

Saturday 21 September looks like

1A04 0605 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1D08 0928 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1A29 1215 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1D19 1500 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1A45 1745 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1D32 2029 London Kings Cross to Leeds

Sunday 22 September looks like:

1A25 1045 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1D17 1400 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1A43 1716 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1D31 2002 London Kings Cross to Leeds or an as yet untimetabled empty working

(The first of these is shown as 'unknown service' and the last as 9-car but it seems that this would form an appropriate out and back diagram from Doncaster IEP depot - it is feasible that there could be an empty stock working from Kings Cross to Doncaster IEP depot that isn't yet in the open data so I wouldn't rely on 1D31 being a 10-car.)

Both the sets for these services ran on Diesel power, under the wires, from Doncaster IEP Depot to Leeds this morning.
Whilst I appreciate they have to Diesel powered to Harrogate i would have thought they would have used the electric mode from Doncaster to Leeds.
Any idea why this was done?

Could depend on the ECS route they took from Doncaster Carr to Leeds. The only electrified route is Via Westgate

First three appear from tiger to have been 10-car today - units now appear on opentraintimes to be working 5Y43 which isn't a schedule in the open data feed.

I think there are two 10-car diagrams from tomorrow.

5Y43 went to Ferme Park / Bounds Green

Seems like three 10-car diagrams. From looking at the LNER booking engine, I have

0505 Leeds to London Kings Cross
0803 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1045 Leeds to London Kings Cross

1403 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1645 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1933 London Kings Cross to Leeds

0903 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1145 Leeds to London Kings Cross

1533 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1815 Leeds to London Kings Cross

0640 Leeds to London Kings Cross
1006 London Kings Cross to Newark North Gate
1156 Newark North Gate to London Kings Cross
1433 London Kings Cross to Leeds
1714 Leeds to London Kings Cross
2003 London Kings Cross to Leeds

The workings in italics are shown as 10-coach on Tuesday but as "Electric Train" on Monday so don't know whether there is a swap over scheduled to fit in with where the 801/1s are or if the formation has been entered wrong into the booking engine. Are there four 801/1s at Bounds Green? Anyway, three full diagrams on Tuesday.

Looks like 0833 and 0903 London Kings Cross to Leeds departures are both 10-car on this morning. The stock for the 0833 worked in on 1A02 0602 Doncaster to London Kings Cross (timetables to start at Doncaster rather than Leeds). The stock for the 0903 comes off Bounds Green.

Many thanks for the postings regarding which units are out working. With regard to the diagrams, the posts at #288 and #293 seem to conflict so we shall see what happens tomorrow!

Only the workings in italics in the first diagram in post #288 conflict with what happened today in post #293 - the other two diagrams worked as set out. This morning appears to have been about getting units in the right place - eg the 0530 from Leeds started at Doncaster rather than Leeds. Tomorrow, the units will (presumably) be in the right place to operate the 0505 from Leeds.

In the same way, the Glasgow starter was a 91+Mk4 set today but an Azuma should work it tomorrow.

Think today been about getting stock into right place eg. 1A25 normally Azuma formed the 1400 Aberdeen and been numerous other diagram swaps.. like you said should become clearer tomorrow

Mondays have to be slightly differnet diagrams due to the Carlisle diverts, as an HST ends up at Bounds Green on a Sunday night.
Also EC59 is on repairs today at Clayhiills due to a brake fault, so with only 12 HST's available, a Mark 4 set is covering an HST diagram. So 19 Mark 4 sets are out today instead of the booked 18.
Booked Azumas from today are 7 class 800/1 units (for 7 diagrams) and 6 class 801/1 units (for 6 diagrams).

They are going north from November.

25th November for Aberdeen.
9th December for Inverness.

not sure which Aberdeen diagram it is. My guess is it the 0710 Leeds - Aberdeen. But this is purely a guess as the diagram doesn’t overnight.
