In a glorified dead rubber. Last test motormouth got tonked.

And I simply don't recognise Joffre Archer as being the "motormouth" that you seem to think that he is. All the descriptions that I've heard from TMS and other sources seem to indicate that he's completely the opposite!

He did say he was going to get Steve Smith out a couple of tests ago.
Still waiting.
I cannot believe that any Australian team in an Ashes test match would not try their hardest to inflict a defeat on an England side. "The Don", had he still been around, would agree with my view.

I'm sure they are trying to win but lets not strain ourselves. Have a couple of series in Australia coming up.

Aren't points available towards the Test Championship? If so each game is equally important.
Yes but that doesn't seem to be how Australia are treating it.

It is a baffling thing the test championship. Some sides have it easier than others.
We have 19 tests in the same period England has 22.

Warner shall be enjoying some Shield cricket over the summer. You can't pick him after another dismal scorre.

Eng slightly lucky IMHO to have a draw . If you remove Smith and substitute a guy with an average of say 45 would we have won ? Smith over rated but gets runs as he is difficult to bowl to .
I have to say a series played in good spirit , even Warner behaved but Wade seems an aggressive character . Paine a gentleman , too nice to be an Aus captain . Still I thin’ god help us down under in 2021

Not quite sure what Smith would have to do to rise in your estimation - a mere 774 runs in the series, from eight innings, ten Test 50s in successive innings, four more than anyone else has achieved in the history of the game.

Smith will forever be tainted as a cheat.

That's rather different to maligning his batting performance, unless you're saying those runs were somehow cheated, which I'm sure you're not. The tactic of booing, etc, can be said to have worked against Warner, the true villain of the piece imo, but seems to have had the opposite effect on Smith.

Meanwhile, on the first day in the County Championship Division Two match between Lancashire and Middlesex, Lancashire were dismissed for 259, leaving 18 overs for Middlesex to bat until close of play, but they too found batting difficult and ended the day on 39-6.

Bailey of Lancashire had a good end of the day spell, finishing with 9 - 3 - 16 - 5.

What a fantastic T20 Blast Finals Day!
Notts in total control against Worcestershire, until the Rapids took three quick wickets in the 19th over to win by 1 run.
Essex took Derbyshire wickets early on, and won by 34 runs, with spinners bowling six batsmen for the first time ever in a T20 match anywhere.
And then the final...
Worcestershire struggled and put up 145-9.
Essex couldn't put runs on the board and looked well short, until Simon Harmer and Ravi Bopara came together with eight balls left and needing seventeen to win. Needing one off the last ball to win on fewer wickets lost, Harmer drove Parnell for four to earn a four wicket win.

Middlesex recovered to 337 all out - that's the highest score EVER in any first class match where a team's lost its first six wickets before 40 have been scored! John Simpson, a Lancastrian I understand, batted out of his skin for 167. Middlesex still lost (again!) though.

The WBBL and BBL have changed the playing conditions for WBBL|05 BBL|09 to avoid the world cup farce. In the round robbin games if it's tied after the super over it's a tie and points get shared. In finals they will play multiple supovers

He is a cheat and a fantastic batsman. Sadly the later will always be tainted by the former no matter how much people seek to absolve him. That is what annoys me the most. He had no need to allow his side to cheat.

Seems sensible. I mean those were the rule of the World Cup so we won fair and square but good grief it was a silly way to decide the competition.
Wickets would have been a more logical tiebreaker given how important they are.

Most 4s was daft. It's not like it mattered given both sides got to the same score just took a different way to get there.

I wonder if English fans have the same opinion of Faf du Plessis. After all he was found guilty of ball tampering TWICE! He ended up becoming captain! Doesn't exactly affect his standing in the game.

I think the difference is we hold our crickets to a much higher standard than anyone else in world cricket. I couldn't see anyone else punishing thier player above what the ICC hands out.

He isn't the only guilty one too!

You'll hear no argument from me on that! It was a bizarre method of trying to separate two teams!
