If you go back a few pages in this thread you'll find a seating plan. You could use that to confirm whether the Wikipedia figures are correct.

I'm afraid after searching the thread I can't find the reference you refer to.
What puzzles me is that the TPE website states 286 seats (264 in standard, 22 in first class)
But the Eversholt website states 290 seats (266 in standard, 24 in first class) and 8 tip-up seats too (so max seated capacity of 298).

My query was whether anyone on this knowledgeable forum knew which of the quoted figures was indeed correct.

Looking at the seating plan -

24 First; 264+8 tip-up in standard

DMFLW - 24 First
PTS1 - 76 Std
MSL - 68 Std
PTS2 - 76 Std
DMSLW - 44 Std plus 8 tip-up

See attached. I'd say even more bays than the Nova 3, at a glance...

Standard class is set to be perfectly window-aligned.

Curiously there are white (floor) spaces at one end of coaches A, B and D. I doubt you'd fit more than a couple of tip-up seats in each, but who knows.

If not - and assuming they're not incorrectly labelled as open space - I'm sure they'll be prime dumping ground for luggage.

Maybe one or more is a stationing point for catering...?

Great, thank you.
So that means both TPE and Eversholt's websites are wrong. Doesn't inspire much confidence in them does it!

TOCs often get seating totals wrong, I think the worst though was ScotRail's Turbostar plan it was pretty poor and even suggested they only had First Class at one end with 2+2 standard the other end!

Wouldn't thought the two staff areas would be for stowing the trolley etc. Agree about the white spaces for luggage - they might as well just kit them out with racks and have done with it really! ;)

Forgive me for asking as I'm sure the info is on here somewhere but how many units have been accepted by TPE and how far are they on with crew training.

The visual seating plan is spot on.

The trolley has allocated storage space that isn’t shown on the customer seating plan. The blank areas are just that - blank areas. Ideal for storing prams, etc, without blocking access.

Seating layout looks great. Fantastic to see TPE (and Northern) putting more table seating in rather than bowing to DfT demands for more daft 3+2 seating layouts. The much-needed new trains are a sea change for the North.

Four accepted so far and should be another two before the end of the month. Static driver training started last week and practical handling will start this week.

I think they could fit a few with luggage stacks, otherwise they'll just end up with luggage strewn about blocking the area.

Well now that Network Rail have confirmed the 397s will be permitted 125mph north of Preston from mid next year, 397s could certainly form part of a new fleet for the WCML.

Where have they done that?
A speculative piece in Rail doesn't count.
Relaxing some PSR speed limits after alignment changes I can believe, but that will take time and cost money.
The future of TASS needs to be explained, too (currently everything exceeding 110mph on the WCML needs TASS).

If you go back to post #801 there is a Twitter link and quite a long conversation about 125mph running on the WCML and one of the people posting is very senior within TPE

Something is afoot, obviously, but as they say the devil will be in the detail.
The other person in the Twitter exchange clearly knows the route well and is not convinced.
Maybe it is a just few specific locations, and Preston-Lancaster is mentioned.
With Voyagers still operating on the route I don't know how NR will sign the route for 4 different speed profiles (PSR, 390, 221, 397).

Neither. I believe they're taking it over routes it hasn't been over yet.

Wonder if it’ll do the Motherwell/Wishaw - Mossend- Whifflet- Carmyle line at some point. The last northbound of the day goes that way.

‘Could’ be wrong here, but there was a 397 doing an ECS run from Lime St to Glasgow today. Is that a first?

Driver training trip but I believe a 397 has already been to Liverpool as I'm sure I've seen a photo of one at Thatto Heath.

Cheers for the info - looks like it's running rings in the Glasgow area today then.

At Oxford road at 15:45 today and a 397 pulls into platform3 and stays there till I caught my train at 15:55 so a good chance to most through the windows. As has been said, looks smart and lots of table bays all aligned with windows
