I had a day trip to Paris from Etaples today - for those who don't know the Corail Intercités trains on the Paris - Boulogne route are electric hauled as far as Amiens where a diesel takes over (there is a gap in electrification between Amiens and Rang-du-Fliers).
I noticed on the way home that once the diesel had taken over, the noise of the air conditioning dropped out from the point at which the doors had closed and the train was ready to start, until about 10 seconds after it had started moving .This didn't happen under electric haulage .
Can anyone shed any light? I think the locos used on this line are BB67400 (diesel) and BB15000 (electric) - both still fine looking machines and great fun with the random collection of Corail stock used on this route (including some compartment seconds)!
