I do hope one unit is preserved. Having driven them since 1999 when I moved over from freight I have a soft spot for the old 313s

A Southern one is expected to be preserved isn't it? The one that’s currently in a sort of BR blue livery, 313201.

Depends on what you mean by preserved really. A static exhibit in the NRM or operationally available to go out on the mainline?

For anyone seeking a last few trips today, 30 and 48 are working HE71 diagram, currently on 2K37 0824 Welwyn Garden City to Moorgate in lovely Hertfordshire morning sunshine with 52 and 59 following on 2K40 0838 from WGC, HE54 diagram...

Further into town, I have also observed that diagrams HE69, working 2G28 0825 Moorgate to Gordon Hill and HE62 returning empty to WGC 2K31 having Worked 0754 from WGC, are both pairs of 313s. 313134 was identifiable as one of those on HE62. There should be one further pair working HE51, 2K34 0808 from WGC, but I don’t get to see those as my pair on 2K37 pass them going empty back to Hornsey in tunnel.

From the above, I have deduced the remaining 313 workings from Moorgate today, including the units where I have observed then (and assuming HE51 is indeed a pair of 313s) - hopefully this is / will stay correct...
  • 1110 to Watton At Stone (134 and one other on HE62)
  • 1140 to Watton At Stone (30 and 48 on HE71)
  • 1200 to Welwyn Garden City (HE69)
  • 1350 to Welwyn Garden City (134 and one other on HE62)
  • 1355 to Hertford North (HE69)
  • 1420 to Welwyn Garden City (30 and 48 on HE71)
  • 1600 to Welwyn Garden City (HE69)
  • 1610 to Hertford North (134 and one other on HE62)
  • 1640 to Hertford North (30 and 48 on HE71)
  • 1650 to Watton At Stone (52 and 59, assuming they come back out for the PM Peak on HE54)
  • 1709 to Gordon Hill (HE51 not seen)
  • 1750 to Watton At Stone (HE69)
  • 1810 to Hertford North (134 and one other on HE62)
  • 1825 to Hertford North (30 and 48 on HE71)
  • 1832 to Welwyn Garden City (HE51 not seen)
  • 1915 to Welwyn Garden City (52 and 59 on HE54)
  • 2020 to Welwyn Garden City (HE69)
  • 2025 to Hertford North (HE51 not seen)
  • 2030 to Welwyn Garden City (30 and 48 on HE71)
  • 2140 to Watton At Stone (52 and 59 on HE54)
  • 2225 to Hertford North (30 and 48 on HE71)
  • 2230 to Welwyn Garden City (HE51 not seen)
  • 2240 to Watton At Stone (HE69)
  • 0017 to Stevenage (52 and 59 on HE54)

Yesterday there were five pairs in traffic.
313037+049 5E15
313061/134 5E19
313048+030 2F56 1110
313052+059 2F60 1140
313039+051 2V63 1200

I was surprised; I thought it would reduce to four pairs this week. 313052/059 were a bit ropey, only got to 70mph on the fast runs north of Gordon Hill. Having said that they were two late off Finsbury Park following a light engine. Only 40 seconds late off Alexandra Palace and back to time by Winchmore Hill. 313030+048 were running better getting to 75 easily.

This morning has 52 and 59 on 2K37 from Welwyn Garden City and they will be followed by 61 and 134 on 2K40 0838 ex WGC. 51 is on the rear of 2B30 0835 Moorgate to Hertford North, the ECS from 2K31 0754 WGC - Moorgate was also 313s, but couldn’t see which..

I managed a couple of fairly bad photos of pairs passing the very pleasant Waterford Marsh and the adjacent Waterford Heath Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust reserve yesterday. These lie either side of the Hertford Loop, about 2 miles north of Hertford North towards Watton At Stone. Good numbers of butterflies still in evidence and enjoyable walking between the trains in the late summer sun. Can anyone identify the pair I photographed working (I think) 2J69 1628 Stevenage to Moorgate?

According to TRUST, the 1628 SVG-MOG on Sunday was 049/037.

Possibly Drayton Park? - no central fast lines there to block the view (if there’s disruption, then #432 better)

Cheers guys. If I go I’ll update as to what I get to see
Check out very helpful post #426. I had a few rides yesterday afternoon and the departure times from Moorgate are accurate. Different unit numbers, obviously!! Corresponding up workings can be worked out from Real Time Trains etc.

I was at Watton-at-Stone this lunchtime for the Flying Scotsman and recorded 313061 & 313134 forming the 12:40 Moorgate service. Just prior to departing another 313 set formed from 313048 (with some really bad wheel flats) and 313030 arrived at platform 2.

Does anyone know the Saturday diagrams on a e13, for the WGC route? Thanks

Unfortunately they are not published. From experience the majority of weekend services seem to be 313s.

061 has had a respray when I passed it earlier. Suspect it won’t be cleaned up. A lot of 313s in ferme park assume they are getting ready for the scrapyard

According to TRUST, the 1628 SVG-MOG on Sunday was 049/037.

Thanks very much for that, much appreciated...

This morning I’m on 313057 and 313039 working 2K34, the 0808 from Welwyn Garden City to Moorgate. Although this pair returns to Hornsey after this working, they should by diagram reappear this afternoon on the HE51 workings listed in post 426 above. These will be followed by 61 and 134, which are in position to work 2K37, 0824 from WGC. These should work all day on trains listed for HE71. Following them will be 30 and 48 at present on their way to WGC, where they will form 2K40, the 0838 to Moorgate. This is HE54, the other diagram that returns to Hornsey after its AM Peak trip, but again this pair should be back out this afternoon on the trains listed in post 426 for that diagram, but this is of course an opportunity for these units to swap with HE51 or any remaining spare set.

I have now also seen HE69 diagram, 51 and 49 working 2G28 0825 Moorgate to Gordon Hill. I suspect that I will pass the remaining diagram, HE62 in the Northern City Line tunnel, but I’ll add this if I see it...

Hi all, am in London on the 24th September, wondering if any will still be about at that point?

A short while ago it was “Will the next train be a 717, no it’s just another 313” Now it’s “Will it be a 313, no it’s just another 717”. How quickly this seem to have happened.

Been there for a number of days now. Guess they're just keeping them as back up. No room in Horsney since all the 717s are at Hornsey now.

313057 + 039 - HE001+002

313052 + 059 - HE024 + 023
313049 + 051 - HE037 + 038
313061 + 134 - HE042 + 041

This morning I’m on 2K37 0824 Welwyn Garden City - Moorgate with 313059 still leading 313052 this the ‘pair’ diagram my sheet refers to as HE71 and Class315 lists as unit diagrams HE041 and HE042. 2K40 0838 ex WGC following will be 313051 leading what is presumably 049, assuming this pair has not been remarshalled from yesterday. This is set diagram HE54 or unit diagrams HE007 and HE008...

313057 and 313037 are working diagram HE62, which appears to correspond with single set diagrams HE024 and HE023. 313037 has replaced 313039 as 313057's partner today. I didn't see 2G28 (HE69 or HE037 and HE038) today as 2K37 was a few minutes late and passed HE51 (HE001 and HE002) in tunnel...

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
Sorry I have missed a few pages in this thread but can anyone confirm the last day of the Great Northern 313s?

I heard it was this week but I don't know how reliable the source is, so I took it with a pinch of salt.

Last 3 pairs finish and replaced by 717 on Mon the 30th, wasn’t it?
