I'm sure it's been asked before, but is there a particular reason that TPE have decided to let the 2 Newcastle services run within 15 minutes of each other from Victoria to Newcastle? It strikes me that swapping one of them with the path of either the Middlesbrough or Scarborough service would give a nice even 30 minute service over that route...
Am sure there's a reason - just curious to know what it is.
To provide a 30:30 timetable for Airport-Manchester-Leeds-York and Liverpool-Manchester-Leeds-York.
TPE plan to extend one of their hourly Liverpool-Newcastle services to Edinburgh from December, and the intention was to start earlier with one service as part of the introduction process.
This might have found its way into some timetables.
It all depends on new stock being introduced and staff training being completed, and start dates are still vague.
PS - Your post actually says "Northampton to Edinburgh", which really would be a surprise!
(Even though such a service could easily be run using class 350s from LNWR or TPE).
It’s a slam dunk feature of any route with a central shared core, two destinations at either end, and a 4 tph service in the middle. 30/30 at one end has to be 15/45 at the other, the only possible alternative is to standardise all journey pairs. (Round here people ask why Southern’s Victoria and Brighton services are 15/45 apart at both Southampton and Portsmouth...)I knew there'd be something simple I'd missed.
