In May this year I saw some loco hauled TERs on this route, unfortunately I was riding an EMU at the time. Does anyone have access to the loco hauled diagrams so I can plan my journey from Perpignan to Avignon on these TERs? (I appreciate there's loco hauled intercities too from Narbonne to Nimes/Arles).

Will be in the area next week so will try and look. Not sure there's many, and I'd be fairly certain that the basic 2-hourly Port Bou workings are units.

Great thanks! If I can travel loco hauled on TER I'll travel up to Avignon then change for more loco haulage to Lyon. Any info on morning departures from Perpignan much appreciated.

Are now two stations at Perpignan, possibly a new TGV one for through trains to Spain or a new bit of high speed line? Or am I thinking of Montpellier?

Have those lovely bright red and sun liveried TER Corail rames finished down there now then? I was last in Cerbère / Port-Bou in July, 2016 and seen BB 7200's on them. That border crossing really has taken a kicking from the TGV / AVE in recent years, another shadow of its former self.

Feedback I've had so far from another forum says nothing apart from the overnight (and the ICs) is hauled now, despite your comment about May, abd high season has passed

The only train I've seen so far was 1315 at Banyuls today going to Port Bou, and that was EMU.

Not entirely related to Cerbère but related to loco-haulage; is IC4663 Bordeaux to Marseille still loco-hauled nowadays?

Can't think what else - I don't think units have taken over. I was through Toulouse a couple of weeks ago and ISTR there were various hauled sets around.

Yes, Bordeaux - Marseille trains are loco-hauled with renovated Corail stock. They might be replaced from 2025 by exercising options on the CAF stock that have been ordered yesterday. However IMHO the most suitable stock would rather be high-speed stock, to call at Aix TGV, Avignon TGV and use future high speed sections.

Thanks for your positive answers guys! 6 and a half hours on a multiple unit really didn't appeal to me!

Noticed on Bahn.de that there's an IC4657 Bordeaux 0832 to Marseille 1426 running to accelerated times and calls only at Toulouse and Montpellier Sud de France so uses new high speed line. I wonder if any other loco hauled IC trains use Lignes Grand Vitesse?

Sort of still on topic, I reckon I've cracked the €1 Occitanie tickets. If you wait till 11pm UK time and then search the oui.sncf website for three weeks time you'll find some great deals eg: Elne to Béziers €1 with big choice of trains, usual fare €18.50. But by midday next day they've all gone. Also if booking for say three people beware, they often come up with two x standard fare plus one €1 fare, eg: Elne to Béziers for three is €38. To get round this just book three separate tickets, tedious but saves €35!! NB you have to travel on a specific train on the Cerbere to Avignon route but some routes are just €1 flat fare so ticket valid on any train that day.

PS €1 fares on TER only, not TGV or IC, but still some very good IC book ahead deals particularly first class. I recommend IC first class on the Bordeaux Marseille route as loco hauled and refurbished corail stock.

The timetable pdf shows cheap fare trains. I discovered something called Evasion fute on the Toulouse - Latour line for EUR10 which is about 1/3 normal - unfortunately didn't suit my timings!

This morning at Perpignan it was pouring so my thoughts of enquiring about Corail TERs unofficially went pearshaped.

All the TERs I've seen this week have been units, but from my TGV around 10.00 I spotted a Corail set on a working I can't identify. It was impossible to see more than that, but I think it was in TER livery or the older IC two-tone grey.

That's interesting as the ex corail TER I saw was between Montpellier and Narbonne mid evening so potentially one diagram shunting back and forth. Of course it might have been a Lourdes excursion..........? (see other threads). It definitely wasn't an IC.

Update: I've seen no loco hauled passenger trains at all since I've been down here. This may of course be due to the Béziers Sete blockade until 4th November. All on Cerbère workings have been 4 or 8 car units. Yard at Cerbère has plenty of TER ex corail stock but judging by graffiti has been out of use a while now.
