Can Permanent Way Rolling Stock work in multiple?

This morning at Leicester I observed two Permanent Way vehicles (perhaps Plasser and Theurer tampers or rail grinders, or other such styled machines) coupled together working a move around the avoiding line. It sounded as if both vehicles had their engines running, and I can't imagine one would be able to ahul the other - but I don't know what form of multiple working they are capable of.

Does anyone know which machines are capable of working in multiple, if any?

Be the same pair I saw yesterday. No they can't work in multiple control but quite capable of dragging each other, and frequently do.

On site there are times when compatible Tampers can be linked together electronically to work together.
Normally used on new S+C sites when both tracks or more need to be lifted and lined at the same time.
I think the most working together at one time is 4 so far.

But that is possession work and not running in traffic.

Would that be them running parallel to each other in formation or running one behind the other on the same line?

When such work is undertaken, are they connected by wireless radio or physically? Is this limited exclusively to tampers or can it be done for rail grinders?

Some 'yellow plant' (in a broad sense) is basically just a freight DMU. Presumably those vehicles can work in multiple.
No ‘yellow plant’ is classed as a DMU, as the definition of a DMU is something that can be coupled to other MUs with through control of 1 Driver/operator.

If I recall correctly the MPV has a powered wagon that can also be driven from the cab in the unpowered wagon. It is derived from the design of a genuine freight DMU used for a while in Germany. I don't know if two or more 2-car MPVs can multiple with each other.

I remember reading about 2 'power' MPV's being used in the same consist to haul heavier loads IIRC, but not sure if you could 'multi' MPVs ('nose to nose' as it were)

I hadn't considered the windhoffs originally but that's an interesting question as well - they certainly appear to get coupled in Tonbridge east yard, unless my memory has failed me.
