The best I can find regarding breaking journey on an Off Peak Day Single ticket is:

Break of journey:
Outward:
A break of journey is permitted unless otherwise indicated by a restriction shown against the ticket's Restriction Code.

However I am puzzled as to where to find any possible Restriction Code while still in the booking process.

Trying to buy tickets for Thetford to Cromer for next Weds, and the choices are Off Peak Day Single or Anytime Day Single. (Incidentally why do they describe it as Day when it's obviously only valid for one journey on a particular day - wouldn't Off Peak Single or Anytime Single suffice?).

We intend to break our journey at Norwich as we can't check into our Cromer hotel until 16:00, but I don't want to buy a ticket that doesn't allow us to leave Norwich Station for a couple of hours. I can't see any restriction code, but when I collect the tickets I might find there is one printed on them. I suppose I could just pay the extra small amount for the Anytime, but it would be interesting to know how to identify whether a ticket has a restriction code before you commit to buying it.

The restriction code can be accessed on the NRE website, and journey planners will (theoretically) work with it.
The default setting for tickets other than Advances is that BoJ is allowed, and in this case, B4 has only a morning peak restriction.

Calling tickets "Day" removes the entitlement to overnight BoJ.

What website are you using? It’s an RSP accreditation requirement to display the restriction code during the booking process.

Anytime singles are valid for two days; hence the difference from Anytime Day Singles (valid for one day).

Thanks folks. I am using the TPE website. May be missing something obvious but I haven't managed to find out whether there's a restriction code. Possibly if there's nothing mentioned then I can assume there isn't one?

Edit: The WebTis version of TPE, so not the one you automatically get these days.

It's a bit awkward to find on nationalrail.co.uk.

From the results screen, click on "Other tickets" in the right hand column and then click on "off-peak day single" or whatever it is on the left. Then go to the bottom of the table to where it says Restrictions on the left, and there's a "view the specific 'Validity Code'" link. If you click on this, it should bring up the text of the restriction for the ticket you specified. If there is no Restrictions section, there is no restriction code for the ticket.

With restrictions that carefully hidden, can you be surprised if they're hard to find, or missing, on some of the retail sites?

Thanks again, glad it’s not just me. I think you might have a case for not observing a restriction code, on the grounds that when you bought the ticket it wasn’t made clear.

I was thinking the same thing but I wouldn't want to test it out.

Am I the only person who thought this thread was about the prime minister?

Haha, it would do him good to try travelling on an Off Peak Day Single!

(Edited to clarify which post I was replying to as another one jumped in!)
