I must admit to being a little surprised that Ive been unable to find any mention on the internet about someone seeking to do this mow quite substantial system in one day.
Surely someone out there must have attempted it? I guess it is because its not as iconic as The London Underground or say the New York Subway?

They'd deserve a medal for endurance, and possibly an ambulance depending on the time of day.

I think it's impossible because the Media City - Eccles link is Sundays only, when there is no direct service to Eccles.

I may be wrong though ...

Last time I used the network after the evening peak, services ran via MediaCity to Eccles

Even more challenging when the Trafford Park line opens!

I think it'd be do-able in a day with reasonable comfort, but still a long day!

If you use Tube Challenge rules, you only have to stop/board/alight at every stop, not cover every section of route.

It is easy enough to cover in a day. You can save some time to avoid doubling back by using the train, from say Manchester Airport to East Didsbury, Victoria to Ashton/Rochdale

That link also runs in early mornings and late evenings so possible on other days too.

Buses are also helpful between Bury and Rochdale

Looking at Google's journey planner for weekdays, the last direct service to Eccles in the morning is at 07:12 from MediaCityUK and the first in the evening is at 20:10.
From Eccles the last morning service via MediaCityUK is at 06:53 and the first in the evening is 19:51.

These times will be different on Saturdays (later in the morning and earlier in the evening); as mentioned upthread all Eccles services run via MediaCityUK on Sundays.

Googling "Metrolink working timetable" gives a site with every train to the minute (or half) everywhere, courtesy of an annual FOI request.

I did the current system bar the Exchange square route in 2015, got the 09:33 FO Stockport to Staylybridge service, then a train to Ashton, walked to the Metrolink station, tram to Eccles, tram to Harbour City for a Tram to Media City, Media city to Cornbrook, Cornbrook to Airport, After a wander around the airport caught a train to East Didsbury, walked to the tram stop for a tram to Rochdale, Train back to Victoria and Tram to Picadilly, Then a train to Glossop/Hadfield and back to tick the triangle off. Tram to Bury before going all the way to Altrincham and getting the train back into Piccadilly.

I've been having a bit of a play with TfGM's timetabling data, and it does appear that getting the bit between MediaCityUK and Eccles is easier on Saturdays.
The last MediaCityUK - Eccles journey in the morning is two hours later at 09:12, and they restart earlier, at 18:46.
In the opposite direction, the last morning journey from Eccles to MediaCityUK is at 08:53, restarting at 18:27.

In the off chance it's of use to anyone, I've popped the full timetable online: www.railwaydata.co.uk/timetables/Metrolink/Sep19/timetable.php?table=MET3
