All the sets abandoned outside Haymarket depot appear to be unrefurbished ones. So yes, it might be a new record!

I live in Dunblane and can see the line from my window, last few days have had more refurbs than usual, like most, I don't bat an eyelid at a DMU so can't reliably say what the proportion is, but certainly seemingly at least half of the HSTs over the past couple days have been refurbs, all in pretty clean condition too I may add, not like back in June where what refurbs there were, were all covered in dirt, especially around the vinyls.\
Edit:
Eg: just now the 1L21 to Dundee just passed formed of 3x 158 with a total of 6 coaches. It's not as if they're shorforming ridiculously, it's just not all services are HSTs, and the certain 6 coach services ( even 5 with 170+158) no doubt have more seats than a 2+4 HST anyway.

Tonight’s 18:54 INV -> EDB is a 170. Fortunately it’s not busy

1B40 (Aberdeen to Edinburgh) was arriving into Waverley around 18:30 today, and it was a refurbed unit. There was some dirt on the vinyls for sure.

My 'First Great Western' coach from yesterday was still there today, alongside all sorts of weird coach and power car combinations. Haymarket depot looks like an HST chop shop at the moment.

One on platform in Inverness today looked quite manky. A lot of streaking down the vinyl. That is irrelevant though good to see one working.

I photographed this back in April:

That light blue is a magnet for filthiness. The vinyl sections of the coaches seem to develop a dirt tan at a quicker rate than regular paintwork.

When they are fresh out the wash a fully refurbished set look exceptional though!

Exactly! when clean they look great, but after a day or two of use that quickly wears off, I would hope they remove the pointless vinyls of the scenery off the trailers though, they serve no purpose and just make the train look unclean.

Should being the key word. Maybe Wabtec have been carrying out the same work to this set as they have been doing to the others at Haymarket. I think at least 4 were out today.

WNXX reports that 43018 (stored SCEL) has been moved by road from Ely Papworth Sidings to Haymarket Depot - the intention being that it'll act as a spare parts donor for the active ScotRail fleet.

Have to say that from a cursory passing look at Haymarket today, there seems to be alot less HST bits and bobs lying about.
Usual couple in the sheds themselves but nothing parked up in the back sidings by the tram line at all

Doesn't look like Refurb 8 has ever made it north and it's been nearly two months since the last set went up-so much for monthly deliveries!! In fact things have slowed down as since Tuesday 13th August when the latest GWR one was released only a sole Cross Country refurb (3rd one done) has been released.

How many cars long was the XC set? GW and ScR are all 2+4, are the XC ones 2+7 or am i mistaken?

EDIT: they are 2+4 for now, 2+5 will (hopefully!) come in the future

The XC ones are 2+7

GWR will be all 2+4

ScotRail were to be nine 2+4 and the rest 2+5, though there was talk a few months ago of making them all 2+5.

Alright, thanks.

As for 2+5, we can worry about possibly ordering an extra 9 coaches after the current sets actually get delivered, and get some reliability in!

Disappointing Wabtec have not delivered to the revised slower programme. I assume the latest set is complete but must have faults?

What about the Kilmarnock work thought that would speed things up have they done anything at all?

Definitely!

There were going to be two 2+6 sets eventually (one extended each from a 2+4 and 2+5), but with the current fiasco lord knows if that's still planned let alone going to happen.

The following powercars are still at Loughborough:
  • 43030
  • 43126
  • 43132
  • 43135
  • 43136
  • 43142
  • 43144
  • 43179
Could it be the case that HA19 is ready to leave, but the powercars simply haven't arrived yet?

ScotRail tweet each day the list of services planned for the refurbs. It certainly looks as if more of them are in service. I think that the wabtec engineers may have been told to prioritise sorting the ones already delivered.

If the set was ready they can (and have done in the past) send a pair of power cars down from Haymarket to pick it up.

Only 3 out of the so far 7 delivered refurbs out in passenger service today.

4 of the classics, and 3 170s instead of HSTs.

Pretty average day really.

further adventure in just how badly designed the cycle storage is- the space for two bikes only really fits a single mountain bike, and on some sizes, the handlebars will be in perhaps the worst position that could be possible.

why oh why oh why...

aren't whoever designed that, & whoever deemed it fit for purpose, & whoever tested it (or didn't!) being sacked & blacklisted from ever working anywhere near the public sector/services ever again?

It's painful how backwards Scotrail and the railway is in general when it comes to bikes. Yes it's free, leaving aside the huge public finance input, but most people would be happy to pay for a service if it worked for cyclists.

However we are in a situation where Scotrail have the space in the power cars but don't want to use it and have produced the worst situation for cyclists in a long time.

I'm on the 1742 Edinburgh-Inverness, a classic HST, and I'm amused by how one coach was plunged into complete darkness for a minute or so by a passenger waiting to get off at Dunkeld innocently leaning on a button in the vestibule. Please tell me that the refurbs make that control inaccessible to the public?

The man seemed to realise what he'd done and everything came on again without staff intervention.
