Hi

I underwent all tests bar the MMI today with GWR and the invigilator stated at the start of the assessments that we would not be given our pass or fail answer at the end. Would anyone on here who has previously been assessed by GWR know how soon they get back to you with the pass or fail answer?

Cheers

Plymouth for me. You?

Did you have your stage 2 or DMI on Friday? I had my DMI for Plymouth on Friday but not heard anything yet.

They did mine in reverse I had my stage 2 next week already booked. It hasn't been cancelled so im taking it that the DMI went well.

Got an email first thing this morning with them saying they're pleased to advise that I have completed the first stage of the assessment and saying I'll be contacted in due course for stage 2.

Is stage 2 the MMI or DMI?
I did all tests bar the MMI yesterday.

How unusual, wonder why they did it that way. I think if you’ve done well with the DMI, the other stage shouldn’t be too difficult. The computer stuff just requires concentration.

How did you feel the DMI went?

Without wanting to put too much pressure on anyone I wouldn't downplay the ease/importance of the "computer stuff".

Yes most of it is about concentration but there's still pressure there and a big focus on things like memory....in an assessment environment keeping concentration isn't the walk in the park you make it out to be.

Sorry to say but just because it's the last bit it doesn't mean anything is a foregone conclusion. Many have come up short at this stage. (Sorry again)

My advise to Danny is to go at the last bit with the same focus and respect as he did the first. Yes it's not a nice thing to say but there's a far better chance of success with that approach than a blasé one.

Remember what's easy to some isn't the same for others.

Congratulations to all those that passed, I couldn’t get past sift with GWR, can someone please help me with future applications so that I don’t fail on first hurdle again..

I’m currently a bus driver and I mentioned about having safety experience etc yet didn’t get past application

@Danny_H22 I think it went ok, the two that interviewed me were professional and very nice, they made you feel at ease. And to be honest it was the part of the whole process I was least looking forward to. GWR did say this was unusual doing it this way around, but I had it in my mind that it was positive and maybe would get me to the end result faster as I won't have to wait after stage 2 to then be invited to a DMI.

I take on what @Red1980 said and I wouldn't downplay part 2, but I am a lot more confident now that the DMI is hopefully out the way. I still haven't heard though but I'm taking that as good news as stage 2 is still booked.

The constant email checking gets on my nerves though. You kind of put your life on hold and this could go on for months if not years and then there is still no guarantee that you get a job even if you pass everything.

It's hard to help with that without knowing what your application is like mate. Just make sure your spelling and grammar is top drawer and that you answer each question correctly.

For example of they're wanting examples of certain situations you were involved in that may have had other people involved, make sure that your answer is based on how YOU performed etc. So many go off on a tangent and end up writing more about what others did etc.

Make sure you promote your current safety critical role well and don't forget about the customer service elements which are immensely important these days. Years ago you could rock up to an interview and if you mentioned the word safety the job was effectively yours...... nowadays if you don't hammer customer service you'll definitely fall short.

Best of luck.

Is it true that the DMI is allot easier then the MMI?? And is the DMI just based on what you know about the company and your past experience that u can relate to train driving?

I wouldn’t say it’s easier, probably the same. The DMI is the first time you actually meet someone from the company you will hopefully be working for. As for the questions, with the MMI you know what they are going to ask you so you can prepare your answers well, whereas the DMI you don’t. For my DMI it was the same questions as the MMI (which I already had answers for) they ask what I knew about the company, (so make sure to do your research). Then the rest were things like, tell me a time you have given great customer service? When have you had to follow rules etc etc. If you use the search bar Lewis H did a post with a lot of possible questions. My advice would be to search the forums for possible questions then try and have an answer for them that you can relate to being a train driver.

If you have completed stage 1 then you should have done the paper and pencil tests, stage 2 will consist of all the computer based tests and your mmi. They may then do your DMI the same day or you might have to go back. This is the standard kind of structure for the testing but it can change from TOC to TOC so I could be wrong

I’d say the MMI was easier than the DMI. The MMI is just answering questions and ticking boxes. Anyone with the right answers can pass that. The DMI is the main interview where you have to sell yourself and are in direct competition with everyone else. One nervous silly mistake could ruin the lot and once you’ve lost the interviewer, that’s it.

but that’s just how I see it. Some people are great in interviews. I’m not.

It would seem that a lot more people fail on their DMI than their MMI, so I'd say it's harder to pass rather than harder to do if that makes sense

You can’t fail a DMI as it’s not an assessment, contrary to what some may say. You could perform excellently at a DMI and be suitable for the job, but still not be offered a position depending on applicant numbers and spaces available. Likewise you may not perform well and not score too well, however this still isn’t a fail as such, just that others performed better on the day. The MMI is part of the assessment process so is a pass/fail.

I did pencil and paper tests and computer tests on the same day (and passed those), but without the mmi.
Gwr have since come back to me to confirm stage 2 is just the mmi only

I think we are talking semantics here. I know it isn't an assessment but I use the words pass and fail simply to mean you did or didn't do well enough to get through that past of the process. My original comment was simply that it seems that more people don't make it past the DMI than the MMI. I've no figures to prove it but anecdotally on here it seems to be the case

I passed my DMI easily. They said they were impressed with how calm I was when the fire alarm went off mid interview and we all had to evacuate. I then went on to take my MMI which I failed on one question.
