Can anyone tell me for sure (not just guessing) if there is any co-ordination between train crew rostering and traction rostering? There seem to be a lot of cancellations because of lack of crew. I understand a lot have yet to be trained but why put out sets that are unlikely to complete the diagram? The diagram/s are fairly established so surely it is known by whomever rosters the crew. Not being arsey, just curious. It inconveniences my playing out but to real passengers it is a very poor do! Ta.

You could always wait a few months until more are in service to avoid disappointment.

Given the fragility of the introduction so far, I wouldn't make concrete plans to travel on them at the moment!

Thanks but that doesn't really answer my question.

There's a lot of co-ordination required, without it the job would fall apart before it got going, the trouble is that with any new, or rare to the area stock, is that if someone goes sick for instance it's going to be that much more difficult to find a replacement at short notice who signs the new stock than if you're trying to find someone who signs something that's long established. As has happens often the stock will run ECS until it can either get to someone who signs it, or until someone can be got out who does the same.

As I say, it's not limited to new stock, I recall once a 156 being stranded at Huddersfield for hours due to there being no driver current in them due to someone being unavailable. I believe TPE have more drivers trained up than guards so that shouldn't be likely to happen.

Thanks again. As a non railwayman, I don't r really understand what goes on behind the scenes and I guess it is much more complex than 30 odd years ago when I was last interested but to have 2 sets diagramed with barely adequate staff able to work them seems silly. Is there a shortage of units too? Again I reiterate I am not moaning or having a go at staff. Just seems an odd thing to do to me and am curious to understand the machinations behind the scenes.

Annual Leave. To put it simply we are in the high point of conductor and driver leave and this affects the new traction more at the moment.

There are quite a few conductors current on the Nova 3 who are on leave. Many of those still working don’t sign them yet.

As for the drivers, they need to do a set amount of hours in control of the train so can easily drive empty stock from Liverpool to Scarborough (or points in between) if required (and has happened already since the soft launch into service).

Nova 3 in service
This week has seen the introduction of a second diagram. After the cancellations on the 21st/22nd, reportedly due to Electric Train Supply faults, there seems to have been some kind of software fix applied to 68025/27, both have run all week without fault. Presumably 68026 will have the same treatment in due course.

A major problem over the weekend has been cancellations due to lack of train crew, reportedly guards. The problems haven’t been confined to Nova 3, with several Class 185 turns also cancelled.

A further first for the week should come later today with 68027 en-route to Manchester Airport on the first Nova 3 service train there.

Happy to be corrected on any of the post and I’ll update:)

Full details of workings in the Nova 3 allocations & diagrams thread.

So what can we expect this week regarding trains being operated in public service? I was in the York Tap on Saturday and two Scarborough trains in a row in the afternoon were cancelled and operated by coaches.

No wifi on today's 1F62 (1256 Man Vic to Liverpool).
Otherwise a nice ride.
The PIS at Victoria advertised a 3-car service (with matching pictogram).
Doors were a long time opening at Victoria, but seemed prompt enough at Lime St.

ASDO door fault, door control handed to the Guard by the Driver.

Didn’t manage to catch a ride, but it was good to see this in the 17:44 departure from Scarbs. We passed another set heading towards York at Malton, presumably on crew training?

If it’s 68019 it is set TP08 and should have 12808 on it somewhere but still having not being accepted by TPE yet it may not have been applied.

The numbers are adjacent to the rear door of the DT. The first few times I saw these I made the mistake of looking on the cab side! Pic below showing 12811. Hope that helps:)
