One question I do have and it is Brexit related but at Edinburgh airport recently there was some products that were not available to be sold to EU bound flights such as Edinburgh to Luton, Edinburgh to Berlin etc...

When we do come out of the EU, does this mean we can buy those products on domestic flights that were previously only available to non EU destinations?

If you're near a Eurostar station.

I wouldn't fancy Newcastle to Munich by train (well, I would, but only if I was in no rush)
Yeah. Edinburgh to Rome - 36 hours by train or 2.5 hours on Ryanair? I know which one I prefer - despite my dislike for Ryanair and air travel being a pain.

If we come out without a deal then you will have a duty-free allowance on flights to and from the EU. If we get a deal, it will depend on the terms of that deal.

You won't get duty-free on domestic flights.

Also almost certainly far dearer on the Train as well !!

Well London to Nice not only is longer by train but it’s more expensive compared to flying which is a fraction of the train fare.

However London to Paris I wouldn’t fly as Eurostar takes you right into the city.

Same for me, if I had to get to Rome there's no way I'd use the train all the way. Just not sensible. Quite, even though Eurostar now have services to Amsterdam, for that route I would still choose to fly. Even if I was closer to London, then I'd still consider flying there on a low-cost airline. Just I'd make sure it wasn't on Ryanair  Yes I still refuse to fly with them after my case was significantly damaged.

Paris I would probably still fly there from my neck of the woods, although that's partly because I'd be on Flybe out of Birmingham and I'd have either a Dash 8 or an Embraer. Can't really argue much about that, two very enjoyable craft.

All that being said, I would like to go on Eurostar again. It's been a good few years since my last trip with them. Maybe a trip to Belgium is on the cards soon...

Hmmm yeah. Meanwhile back in the real world outside London.....

I flew from Edinburgh to London with EasyJet recently and while I could have used LNER, that would have taken up a lot of the day as it was as I flew, I ended up having a extra day to enjoy plus it was far far cheaper to just fly then go by train.

Not looked for further details yet, but on the way home from work yesterday I briefly saw a headline on BBC News about Saudi Arabia, something about opening their borders to improve their economy via tourism money I do believe.

Can't say I'm in any great rush to go there, curious though as to whether anyone on this thread would go. It ranks about the same as Russia and China for me, no thanks!

Basically what it is in short is the fact that up to now you’ve been restricted to business visas and visas for religious reasons such as the Haji to Mecca.

Now they want to open up to tourists and keeping in line with forum rules, this is a Sky News article.

https://news.sky.com/story/amp/saud...-foreign-tourists-for-the-first-time-11820673

Saudi Arabia will open its doors to foreign tourists for the first time as the country hopes to attract 100 million visitors a year by 2030.

The ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom, which has been relatively closed off for decades, is making visas available to tourists from 49 nations on Friday.

The move is part of de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's ambitious plans to develop new industries, as the world's top oil exporter looks to wean itself off of the fossil fuel and open up society.

Tourism is high on the crown prince's agenda, despite a shortage of infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia is appealing to foreign companies to invest in the sector it hopes will contribute 10% of gross domestic product by 2030.

Tourism chief Ahmed al-Khateeb has estimated around 250 billion riyals (£54bn) of investments are needed, including 500,000 new hotel rooms within the next decade.

The Gulf country, which shares borders with Iraq to the north and Yemen to the south, boasts vast tracts of desert but also verdant mountains, pristine beaches and historical sites including five UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Don’t rule out China. I went last February and had a great time - it was somewhere I never thought I’d go though.
Russia is somewhere I don’t see the appeal of though.

Thanks for providing the link, I was devouring a bacon sandwich for my breakfast, in a rush before leaving for work, when I posted this morning. Time to hunt a link down was not on my side, I barely made it to work in time to get set up and ready to go as it was!

Reading that, it's making it more tempting to go if only for a swift day trip. I mean, to get it done I'd be happy with just a flight there, have an explore briefly and fly home the next day. Or that evening, whichever made more sense.

Don’t rule out China. I went last February and had a great time - it was somewhere I never thought I’d go though.
Russia is somewhere I don’t see the appeal of though.

I said this morning China doesn't appeal, but equally I want to do the Great Wall of China. It is however the only thing there I want to go for. Well, maybe a few Chinese beers as well, given how unusual they are (in my experience) to find in the UK.

However I'm happy enough to let the Great Wall slide in favour of doing other stuff. Just the thought of going to China gives me the shivers, same for Russia. The fact I have to fly over that part of the world in November 2019 as part of my trip to Tokyo (random sidenote, that's the only bit of Japan which really appeals to me, otherwise I'd give Japan a wide berth) is enough to cause anxiety...

Well at long last I now have an A320neo in the bag, in orange flavour.

Very quiet, even though it seemed to have more power on the take off roll. I was right over the wing. Seemed to be more space but I’m sure that was a perception rather than reality. A significant improvement on the ceo.

The one thing I noticed was quite significant resonance / vibration during engine start up. Much more than on the ceo.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your first 320neo! I reckon it could be a perception thing on the space, but if it was anything like my 321neo with Wizz, then it will have felt quite light and spacious so who knows?

I'm having a dippy moment here, so please refresh my memory with what 'ceo' means. 'engine order' I've worked out, but pre-coffee brain can't recall what the 'c' stands for.

As for vibrations during start-up, I don't immediately recall it being significant with the 321neos, but I had the safety briefing going on at the same time so I wasn't really paying too much attention to the engines.

“Current engine option”

Whoops sorry, forgot the forum rules on acronyms!

Thanks @berneyarms

Given that Airbus haven’t taken any orders for A320 family aircraft with the ceo option for a while and that most deliveries are now neos, I wonder how until long ‘current’ becomes ‘old’.

(As of the end of August, there were only 89 ceos left to be delivered in the order backlog for A320 family craft, and the small matter of 5721 neos!)

No worries, have you been to Israel yet?

5,721 Neos on order?! Jeepers that is a lot! o_O

Thanks for the clarification on 'ceo' too, makes sense.

Yep, they should be churning out 2 a day by the end of the year (currently a little less than that); at that rate it’s still an 8 year order book. And that’s before any carriers ‘defect’ from Boeing with the 737Max issue (Boeing have a backlog of 4,600 737Maxs, with several hundred manufactured and parked up)

No more space compared with A320ceos with the latest interior, as far as I'm aware. That said, there aren't that many A320ceos with that interior!

Had my first Neo back from Pula earlier this month with EasyJet and didn't notice any significant difference other than the fan blades in the engines looking very different when I got on and off. It was a nice flight, the crew were great.

Geordie back from exile.
Currently in New York having arrived yesterday from Manchester on G-VROM an 18-year old B747-400. I realize after that flight why I never fly Virgin any more, my goodness the cabin service was painful. Virgin were a great airline in the 90's but the airline mindset seems to be still 25 years ago, so many others have surpassed them by leaps and bounds now. The 747 performed admirably as it is still a great aircraft with legendary performance but the interior cabin and service and the crew we had is not. Maybe it was just bad luck or we all had an off-day.

Flight back on Thursday which will be my last flight with Virgin, as it stands as I only booked with them to burn off my remaining Flying Club airmiles, been flying with Virgin for 25 year now but enough is enough.

Quite likely my last ever B747 flight the way these are being retired now.

That is how I felt last time I flew Virgin to Vegas. Dirty, visibly dusty and unkempt 747. Crew didn't care for customer service at all, rushed the food service then disappeared for the rest of the flight. I used to love flying with them, but I won't be rushing back.

BA to Miami in January :)
