Just had my last trip, on 313049 doing 2030 Moorgate to Welwyn. An atmospheric run, 313s performed faultlessly, with just a very small turnout of enthusiasts in the heavy rain.

I took a ride on the 2030 as well! I'd agree a few enthusiasts in the front and photos being taken at every station.

I saw them running the semi fast through Enfield on way to GDH just before 1800 then again heading back along the Loop on my return. Sadly my timings didn’t allow me to fit one last go in.

The murky, soggy night seemed rather apt. The dry, warm, well lit 717 almost felt like a cop out. Alas...

Any likely to be running from Moorgate on Thursday? We're currently enacting a prolonged goodbye to the 314's up north...

No chance - the last service is just about seeing the last pair into October - just about to go into the tunnel at Drayton Park for the last time in normal service.

Some route diagrams had been removed, I suspect by enthusiasts. An external vinyl side panel also looked like it had been removed, leaving a black glue type residue on the outside of the car. A fellow passenger commented that 'it was not like that this morning'.

Did the route maps ever get updated beyond 2017? I think they still said Cambridge North was opening soon.

I saw it at Hatfield yesterday morning looking fairly unloved. Very black at the bottom. Maybe the passenger this morning boarded from the other side.

2K37 postscript. The 0824 Welwyn Garden City to Moorgate has, as very much expected become the last morning peak service to go over to 717, with 717016 first to work it. Me well, with 9S06 (0637 Brighton to Cambridge) running sufficiently late, I popped up to Welwyn North for the 365s on 1R11 (0812 Baldock to King’s Cross with 365536 and 365522) for the last fast and comfortable trains serving the Welwyn area...

And 2C13? My otherwise normal train, tardy as usual is stuck on the slow line behind 2K37!

GTR have issued a press release - http://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/govia-thameslink-railway/pressreleases/gtr-completes-massive-investment-in-new-rolling-stock-2926157

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) this week completed a five-year £2bn programme to transform passenger journeys with more than 1,500 new carriages, turning one of the UK’s oldest fleets into one of the most modern.
...
The last Class 313 ran in service on Monday, 30 September, however GTR will be running a special service with a Class 313 for charity on 23 October. Tickets for this event are sold out and will raise money for GTR’s three charities: For Jimmy (supports young people), MIND (supports those with mental health issues), NOAH Enterprise (helps the homeless) and The Railway Children.

So were the posts a few days ago about one diagram (or pair) surviving into this morning’s peak perhaps wishful thinking based on normal stabling patterns?

Given that the 30th was being quoted a few weeks ago this must be one of few recent deadlines to actually be met...

shame theres very few/no photos of these trains before they went

as for preservation, im sure you could tow them behind something, not quite the same i know

as said i used to spend a lot of time around harringay back in the early to mid 2000s so remember seeing and using these units very well, where do the southern ones run as probably my only opportunity to see them now

I know this isn’t what the release is meant to imply, however I can’t help but smile at the suggestion that the class 313 has been completely removed from traffic. Those Coastway 313s are a figment of the imagination then?! Even if they’re getting close to the point where they must be approaching borrowed time.

Sad to see the GN 313s finish. They’ve proved themselves to be decent workhorses over a life spanning five decades, and whilst never the most glamorous of trains they have served their routes well. A shame they were allowed to fall into a tatty state in their final few years.

I've posted a 360° video that I recorded yesterday from inside 313048, capturing the stretch between Harringay and Highbury & Islington in the daytime.
On the approach to Finsbury Park, the driver makes an announcement about the last day of the 313s.
Those with suitable headsets can also view this in VR. Enjoy!

gonna miss having the opportunity to see these, I loved the character - despite them looking rough they stood out from other classes.

HSTs has the bright yellow we well.
The orange you mention would be the 455s, not sure if the 317s had it as well.
