Hi

I sat my part 1 assessments today - group bourdon, trp 1 and 2 and tea-occ.

In relation to trp 1 (memory) and trp 2 (the dials) do you have to answer every question right to receive a pass?

Also, on the tea-occ where you are scanning a phone book, one of which you are listening to tones are you expected to finish scanning the phone book or just expected to get so many right? The plumbers question I probably got two thirds of the way through with the restaurant on about three quarters.

Thanks.

You’re not expected to realistically finish many of the tests in their entirety. The aim is to work quickly and accurately, so if you finish it all and get half wrong, you’ll fail, whereas if you finished three quarters of a test and got all questions correct, you’d probably pass. Hope this makes sense.

C2C Southend ?

As @Stigy said above, it's not about how much get's done, it's about the accuracy of your answers

Thanks for the help guys. The plumbers bit I wasted about ten seconds at the start as I was looking for plumbers then realised they were all plumbers hopefully I made the time up.

Yes mate Southend was you there?

You might be surprised. I was similar on the DFFT (a test that is only done for TOCs/FOCs using the enhanced standard). I wasted a few minutes correcting the first question (going back and fourth), and only completed 8.5 out of 42 or there abouts. I was confident I got them all right and was under no illusion that one wrong would have been a fail at that level. I was pleasantly surprised to hear I’d passed it though. From reading posts here, most people were scoring 11 or 12 at least.

Yeah the kid that looked about 12 sitting in the 2nd row right at the back, White Shirt, Blue Tie

My advice would be to scan this forum for information as there is some very helpful information on here, hopefully I'll see you at Stage 2

So many people get too confused with that test and pay too much attention to the rubbish the assessor will waffle on about, about plumbers and restaurants, its simple just circle and double symbol pair, 4 different symbol pairs.

Hello John1930
What do you mean by circle and double symbol pair, 4 different symbol pairs?

Yeah I realised that after about ten seconds then just started circling all the double symbols. It was two pages and I probably got half way down the second page. I was just wondering if this was enough as I’m confident that I didn’t miss out any symbols?

That should be enough to pass. Good luck

I did this too - in fact I didn't realise quite close to the end that they were all plumbers! I passed it though

Arriva London had assessments on yesterday as well.

I’ve got my first assignment centre on 14th, can you give any insight as to what type of tests you had and if you can remember the question or format

@Ali94 They started with the Situational Judgement then group Bourbon, DFFT and finally the Tea occ.

A friend done that yesterday but that order is changed around since I did mine.
My advice is practice with the materials that you were sent.

Do you know what they had for the TRP, was it memory and dials?

It should be a sticky on here the amount of times people are confused by this.

Memory and dials both at stage 2 in Watford. When I did mine, anyway.

Guys,

Bit of help please. I received an email to say I am through to stage 2.

However, I have been informed that I am now due to attend court as an ex partner I have had lots of issues with has alleged harassment against me.

I have no criminal convictions and this is the first time I have ever been in trouble, I plan on fighting the charge and I believe I have acted reasonably.

I am just looking for some advice on whether
1. I need to declare this at this stage
2. Is this likely to have an adverse impact on me getting the job?

Thanks.

At this stage I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ve not been convicted of anything, and as such you wouldn’t have had to declare anything on your initial application (usually). It’s early days yet so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Thanks mate. If I was to be convicted of it, given it’s a minor offence would it likely prevent me from getting the job in your opinion?

Depends what the conviction is for. As long as you declare it when asked etc I’d imagine you’d be fine.

Personally I'd contact them and at least give them the heads up. Yes granted you've nowhere near been convicted of anything but remember on your initial form it will surely have asked about any current convictions but also anything PENDING. I know there was nothing pending at the time but you should always keep them updated over stuff like this

Yes telling them may have a possible negative affect on your application (it may not and probably won't) but at least they can see there's no honesty or integrity issues which is a huge thing on the railway and there's nothing you've attempted to hide. I've heard of people being hauled out of classrooms and training courses and escorted off the premises for things that weren't disclosed on an application form but discovered later.

Don't risk anything mate it's not worth it.

I wouldn't bother at this point as you've not been convicted of anything yet and you've not even got through your stage 2 assessments. If you are convicted then you can contact them at that point.

Thanks mate. Are railways quite strict on this sort of thing or do they apply a bit of common sense to it?

All of these sorts of things are usually judged on their own merits. You’ll need to have a basic disclosure/CRB check carried out obviously. It all depends on the nature of the conviction really. Only the TOC themselves will be able to give you a definitive answer.

I think each TOC will have their own policy but I'd wait until the outcome of your stage 2 assessments and indeed your court case before you need to think about contacting them.
