Hello,

On Saturday 5th of October I took the CrossCountry service 1847. I boarded at Reading and the train departed at 20:15. I had booked to go to Wolverhampton but unfortunately the service had been cancelled (due to staffing problems), with Birmingham New Street being its final scheduled stop. I had stupidly left my suitcase on-board and only realised once the train had departed from Birmingham (at 21:57). I am now trying to find out where that train would have terminated so that i can try to locate my suitcase. Birmingham lost property don't have it, and Manchester don't have it. I don't know whether the train would have actually terminated at Manchester after the service was cancelled at Birmingham. So my question is where would the train have gone after leaving Birmingham New Street? Back to it's origin station (Bournemouth)? Or would it have carried on to what was its intended termination station? Or perhaps even operated on another route? Does anybody know how i can actually find this out?

Many Thanks
Ben.

At that time of night on a Saturday it could well have terminated at Birmingham to allow the unit to be moved to Central Rivers at Burton for overnight stabling.

Have you tried messaging XC on Twitter to see if they can help? Give them the details of the service (I've posted the Real Time Trains link with it on at the bottom) which is 1M74 2015 Reading to Birmingham New Street and the date of travel and I'm sure they could do the relevant digging to find out where the unit went afterwards.

Here is the Real Time Trains link:

According to TOPS, after being cancelled 1M74 ran ECS (Empty coaching stock) to Longsight Sidings, so I would imagine any lost property found on the train would have been sent on to either Manchester Piccadilly or Stockport.

I was just coming back to advise that it ran empty to Manchester Piccadilly as 5M74 and went off radar at Longsight so assumed it would have spent the night on that particular depot.

I would still suggest contacting the Cross Country Twitter team to see if they can assist or alternatively contact lost property at Manchester Piccadilly or Stockport as suggested above

Wandering very slightly off-topic: When I travel with anything additional to my ever-present rucksack I set an alarm** to remind me periodically and particularly just before my destination that I've got extra luggage to remember.
As well as the obvious purpose I find it helps make the journey more relaxing because I don't have to worry about forgetting. :E

**Old school digital watch, but obviously most people would use their mobile.
