Lille had the builders in when changing trains there in April this year.

Dreadful place, broken concourse surface, no toilets, no left luggage and most importantly no one manning the information desk. Escalators to the platforms out of order and the lighting poor. Therefor won't be on my list of favourite stations.

I've used Lille Europe five times throughout this year (first visit January, last visit August) and I have seen absolutely no progress. There might be some from behind the scenes but it is a woeful station to go to.

I mean it's not hard to put some floor tiles right?

Yes it's certainly no St Pancras!

I would suggest anyone with a decent wait go around the corner to the huge, modern and clean shopping center 'Euralille'.

Or the other side of the shopping centre to Les Trois Brasseurs (The 3 Brewers). Good hearty Alsatian style food and they brew their own beer in 4 varieties! Good place to wait an hour or 2 :)

Ahh! Never saw that!
What I did find was a dodgy bridge to the far end of the platforms at Lille Flandres, not pleasant at all!

Walk another 100 yards and you're on the town square with plenty if bars and restaurants to wait in. Use Lille more than Paris to change these days

I returned from my annual sojourn to Catalunya yesterday and decided to give the dash across Paris for the 10.07 on the way out, Sep 3,
a miss this time and travelled via Lille/Lyon to Girona instead, despite the hour+ wait at the former for a connection South.

Being a smoker I opted to wander down towards Flandres and found a cafe on the left, having picked my way through a plethora
of army guys packing some serious heat, managed to grab a coffee although on asking for 'petit lait' was told they all come the same.

Found the toilets at the far end; old style with the woman of a certain age parked between gents and ladies but opposite was a door
where I could puff away in peace for the next half hour but there did appear to be plenty of work on going in said quarter, with rsjs
of all shapes and sizes being moved around.

Always enjoyed Lille as a town but will return to Plan A next time as I'm not a fan of St Pancras and find Ebbsfleet far more user friendly.

Anybody know where Lillenium shopping mall will be in the city centre it opens in April? Is it close to the Euralille? I wonder how it will affect it as H&M closed down in the city centre im guessing due to EuraLille?

Google suggests it is on the southern edge of the city, not far from Porte des Postes metro.
