A 755/4 just came through Elmswell heading towards Cambridge, is that the first time on this bit of track? Couldn't see which one from where I was.
5Q52 from Harwich Intl to BSE recp, returning to H Intl as 5Q53 (passes Elmswell about 1150), then 1324 to Crown Point at 5Q54. It would be really great to have these on the Cambridge-Harwich Intl trains for the two extra bike spaces if nothing else.

A 755 did an overnight Ipswich to Cambridge return a few weeks ago. This is quite possibly the first daylight trip through Elmswell.

Thanks, must have missed reading about that.

Trespass incident at Bury St Edmunds holding up regular services and 5Q53 by the look of it.

Does anyone know how many 755s are in service now? I think there must be a few more since the last count as most of not all Breckland services seem to be 755 in addition to whatever they are doing on the Wherry Lines.
Any closer to the 3 cars entering traffic?

Only seven but I think 418 has an issue that may put it out of action for a bit. Only three made it into service this morning.

Thanks. Can you say what is wrong with 418? Understand if you can't.
Noticed the one I was on this morning seemed to have minor wheel flats on one of the centre bogies. Pretty sure we slid for a few moments whilst braking for that level crossing outside Thetford with the 40mph limit, second time I've experienced that in the same spot. They do seem quite light footed.

All I know is it had an issue with the exhaust & overhead wiring mate. Hopefully not as bad as first thought. Still awaiting clearance of 3-car units. They will help no end with rural stations if ASDO isn't given the thumbs up.

Nothing to do with driver availability. It's over 85% trained now at Norwich.
Fair enough. Have you had the pleasure yourself yet?

I guess these are quite complicated new trains. I imagine a lot of issues are relatively minor, yet still need a unit taken out of service. I know from my years spent working sugar factories that the first few weeks of any processing period were always the worst in terms of breakdown, all it takes is for a sensor or microswitch to fail or not be adjusted properly, or not be wired up right (or even at all!) and all sorts of bad things happen to stop the job. Sometimes very difficult to trace. Like the time we kept blowing a particular DCS communication unit (stopped factory due to the critical process it was running). No one could work out why, until someone happened to notice it was after sugar had been filling a particular bin for a period of time. The high level switch had been replaced in the maintenance gap and been wired incorrectly so that it was shoving 110v into the DCS card instead of 12v whenever it was "on"!

Apologies for the digression!

Don't apologise. It's very interesting to hear that such things occur & that nothing & no one is perfect.

Not had the pleasure myself as not fully trained. Just had a mess about on the simulator which is damn good fun. Trouble is this is a first for Stadler in the UK so much to do to tick all the boxes.

It was booked a 170 for years & used to come from Lowestoft. Now starts Bury & will probably revert to a 156 before 755s take over.

At Norwich, I notice there is always a Stadler jacketed guy waiting to receive every incoming 755. Is this a 'everything alright mate?' type of thing, or is more of a celebratory 'Well done you made it!' I wonder. Can't wait to get these down to Ipswich.

Can't wait to get these down to Ipswich, and then the matter of the 745's.. the IC cancellations, short forms, faulty stock (broken window last night) is all getting a bit much for daily travel. Traveled last night with what appeared to be two working toilets for the entire train. Now that's really Cr**. :) I know.. patience.

Trouble is the fitters have got to keep the existing fleet in service whilst getting used to the stadlers. Bare minimum maintenance on the legacy stock as the time pressure will be huge.

All will be 755's and all needed pretty quickly.

Why when it just used to cart fresh air on the Norwich stretch? Better to have a good and reliable connecting service

still under warranty period,I would expect such a level of after care to make sure that the end product is working as it should do.

These units really do go like the proverbial! Boarded the 0752 from Attleborough, and arrived a minute early at Thetford. Also sat at Brandon for a little while awaiting departure time and again several minutes early at Ely as has become the norm.
They really shift when the driver gives it the full beans! Sat next to the power unit today and it was apparent that it only takes around 90 seconds to reach 90mph from a stand. Pretty astonishing.

There's no way all the existing fleet will be gone in a few weeks. Not even all the diesels.

I think it's the diesels they refer to and sadly there isn't much of a choice - they're contracted out to other operators. It's been said before that either the fleet will be in service or GA will have to choose which services to withdraw for the time being.
