Am I missing something? A big BR/NR logo would be pretty nice, and a good sign of what the building does - what connotations do you mean?
I dunno, most people don't exactly have the best impression of the BR/NR logo. But I may just be out of touch. Commuters who use the station that I've talked to never seem to have the most positive impression of the service offered. Though simply having that there is probably not at all an issue.
You're probably more right than me overall, now that I've had a rethink.

I don't think I've ever spoken to anybody who's expressed even the mildest dislike of the BR/NR logo. Plenty of people are indifferent of course, but actual negative opinion no. It's instantly recognisable and iconic to designers, and to the general public it just means station.

fair enough. I hereby retract the suggestion it would be an eyesore to anyone. Any idea what'll actually planned though?

I have done a terrible thing - that last video is even longer now. As from this morning, those watching it have their sentence increased to 13’ 46” as the site tour section is now shown in more detail. The good news is you don’t have to watch it again if you’ve done your time already.

Looks like the new gate line for platforms 4/5 and 6/7 might be in operation soon. That’s all behind the partition at the moment but could be opening on the 14th.

That's the scheduled date, isn't it? So far I think that the project has met all these.

Yes, Network Rail are saying on Twitter that Platforms 4 & 5 will reopen on 14th October. My seagull has tweeted (well, more of a squawk really) this picture in reply:

Now that I look at it, the OHLE has been extended but the original platfom 4/5 goalpost terminal mast is still there. Maybe it needs a team of dentists to dig it out.

Will be great to have the full gate line restored; get's a little cramped in the mornings and evenings during the commuter crush!

Presumably from next Monday all the E-G trains will move over to 8-coach sets?

More likely unbolt the centre sections of the horizontals when the rest of the worksite is quiet 1 night using the RRV for the lift, then the side parts of the horizontals, then the remain 2 vertical can be done on other nights when the hoardings can be temporarily expanded and the 25kV to the rest of the station also switched off as 3 & 6 are rather close.

From NetworkRailGQS Twitter:

Look out for changes at Glasgow Queen Street! Starting early next week, platforms 8 & 9 will each have their own separate entry/exit point.

Platform 8 will be accessed via the existing fire doors to the left of the top of the stairs to/from Platform 8, leading on to Platform 2.

Platform 9 will be accessed via a new entrance to the right of the top of the stairs to/from Platform 9, leading out to the end of Platform 1 and on to Platform 2.

Also from next week, excess tickets booths on platforms 2 & 7 will move back to Platform 3/4.
Now I understand what all of that means :D, but a few photos might help get the idea across more clearly. I’m sure they will be forthcoming in due course.

PS: Nothing about new gate lines yet - I did ask but they haven’t replied.

December I believe. I think they'll want to bed in the use of these platforms first before planning use of 8 car trains 4 times every hour.

I suspected it was complete apart from a bit of tidying when I was there yesterday.

EDIT: I don’t see any trains scheduled to use P4 or 5 today, on Realtime Trains anyway, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t happen.

Full press release at https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/early-completion-for-queen-street-platform-works

Network Rail has successfully completed the lengthening of platforms 4 and 5 at Glasgow Queen Street station.

Work on the four-week-long project finished today (Sunday, October 13), nearly 24-hours ahead of schedule.

The new infrastructure will enter service at Scotland’s third-busiest station tomorrow morning as planned.

The platforms had closed on September 16 to allow engineers to undertake the 26 metre extensions, which involved removing 2000 tonnes of material, installing 100 metres of new platform walls, 200 metres of new track and connecting it to the existing infrastructure, as well as extending the overhead power lines by 50 metres.

The completion of the platform 4 and 5 works follows the successful extension of platforms 2 and 3 earlier this summer. All track and overhead electrification works being delivered as part of the £120m redevelopment of the station have now been completed.

Kevin McClelland, route delivery director for capital delivery, said: “Our team has worked around-the-clock to complete this vital element of the redevelopment of Glasgow Queen Street as quickly as possible.

“Extending the platforms will allow longer electric trains to use them, meaning more seats for passengers.

“We appreciate the understanding customers have shown over the last four weeks while we have been completing this enhancement to their station.”

Once finished in spring 2020, the Queen Street redevelopment will revitalise the station, delivering a contemporary building with an expanded concourse almost double the size of the old station, with fully-accessible entrances on Dundas Street and George Square.

The redevelopment is part of the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) – a Scottish Government-funded investment in the railway infrastructure across central Scotland delivered by Network Rail Scotland.

Glasgow Queen Street station opened in 1842 with the Victorian glass roof, which is now a category A listed structure, constructed three decades later and completed in 1878.

Silly Twitter video (only 22 seconds) but it gives a flavour of the place this morning:

More changes in the access to the Low Level station from the west today (from NetworkRailGQS Twitter)
Changes to access routes for Glasgow Queen Street Low-Level today.

Low-Level Platforms 8 & 9 each have their own separate entry/exit point.

P8 is accessed via existing fire doors to the left of the top of the stairs to/from P8, leading on to P2.

P9 is accessed via a new entrance to the right of the top of the stairs, leading out to the end of P1/2.

Excess tickets booths move from P2/7 back to 3/4 too.

I never doubted their ability to make things happen fast overnight, but this is what the platform 9 new entrance looked like just yesterday seen from platform 1:

Haven’t seen the finished result yet but they must have been going some to get it finished.

I made a joke about it on Twitter (which fell completely flat) asking if they were going to rename it ‘Platform 9 3/4’ - not unreasonable given there was no sign of a door until today.

Update 42, (which disappointingly casts no light whatsoever on the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything but does however contain a factual error on the commentary quite near the beginning which will be fixed sometime tomorrow morning) is now available.

I should have put it out last week rather than waiting to include some further progress after the 14th October because even more things have happened since so of course it’s out of date already.

Usual apologies for the technical quality.

I think I might change my name to Marvin.

Great update Pax, but could really have done with some Vogon poetry in there to liven things up a little ;)

Hold handrail
Do not run

Could be some sort of haiku.
Far from haiku, more a Glaswegian George Orwell, but does anyone remember that dreary dystopian voice that went round and round on the Low Level steps telling us to 'hold on to the handrail and take care on the stairs'. They killed him off a few years ago thank goodness and we immediately all went skipping and dancing around Queen Street with no ill effect.

There’s a pair of burglar alarm type PIR sensors at the top & bottom of the stairs that activate it. I think it still works as you can hear the speakers make a noise when someone is on the stairs, they’ve just removed the actual announcement recording

Thanks again for the updates @PaxVobiscum

If someone at Network Rail Scotland/ScotRail is reading this thread, I think you should get him a bottle of whisky for his efforts, or at the very least a bag of chips for his seagull.
