Can anyone please give me some advice about this journey:

Tomorrow Tuesday 15th October I am travelling from Peterborough to Cromer and returning on the 16th. I am buying a super off peak return and using my senior rail card.

But...... when I get to Norwich I must change trains and catch the train from Norwich to Cromer. I have a half hour wait in Norwich.

Am I allowed to leave the station and go and have something to eat? And can I take about an hour and a half doing so. In other words, I miss the first train to Cromer from Norwich after I arrive there. But catch the one after.

The reason I ask is that they have automatic barriers at Norwich which would obviously time me out and back in.

Thanks for any help. I would be most grateful as a pensioner I don't want to be fined for doing something wrong or charged extra.

You absolutely can break your journey at any intermediate station on a Peterborough to Cromer Off Peak Return (SVR).

I don’t know if you know Norwich, but it will probably take about an hour to go somewhere to eat and back: as you leave the station, sharp left to the supermarket; left for Riverside middle-market pubs and restaurants; straight on over the river for downmarket pubs and kebabs.

But as Yorkie says, you can break your journey as long as you like on that ticket.

I do not remember how senior bus passes work in this country but I think it would be worth catching one of the frequent buses to the town center where there are nicer fast restaurants in the small streets around the market area and some pubs. Avoid the pizza chain on the balcony in the BBC building.
