What has caused the large increase in delays to LNER services recently?

So for 3 days running loads of late running and cancellations resulting in me only managing to pick up 3 out of 11 passengers due into Peterborough this week. 5 abandoned their journeys the others travelled to alternate destinations

Why has the LNER timetable so dramatically fallen apart this week ?

I think they’re called Azumas!

along with minimal maintainence on the legacy fleet.

Today there was disruption caused by the Voyager bogie fire at Doncaster. The 0703 to Leeds was also cancelled while in the platform at King’s Cross this morning. Presumably that put the set out of action for the rest of the diagram.

I can’t speak for the other days.

Was it an LNER that went bang at Haymarket earlier today too? Looking at the LNER site it may well have been one of the Aberdeen to KGX services that was 71 late?

Yes air leak on 10:00 Kings Cross to Aberdeen at Haymarket, between the rear carriage and the rear power car 43311.

There was also a HST power car fault on 07:34 Harrogate to London, possible fire I think.

TPE catches fire, XC catches fire and people walk in front of trains, ALL LNER's fault, they have lots of problems with the introduction of new rolling stock but you cannot blame them for everything, unless you want to.

The original thread title was something like ‘what has gone wrong with LNER’ which suggested that’s what they were doing.
There wasn't any blame attribution though?

The original post may be viewed as slightly 'loaded' and you have to read between the lines to understand it (the original poster is presumably private hire driver) but does not actually apportion blame, but asks what the cause of the disruption is.

They sent me an email today apologising for yesterday’s disruption to my journey and encouraging me to claim Delay Repay. (Already have)
I got caught up in the backlog of an incident on the line.

As someone who travels on LNER daily, my own experience is that the last month or so has been good for reliability. August was a poor month for reliability for me.
The only delay over 30min for me this month was the fatality at Carlton just north of Newark on the 15th. I was on the train involved in the incident which was 1E04 0656 EDB KGX and we were 131L into KGX.

Although it was actually 1S09 that had the fatality, you were probably just held in the blockage awaiting line to reopen.

The second post on the thread very much seemed to be laying the blame at LNER's feet, for having unreliable new trains and not looking after their old ones.

probably my post then. Maybe not the reason for this weeks specific problems but as is always (without exception) the case, unreliability of new trains and basic only maintenance of assets that are not long staying with the business are part of the problems.

Seems to be most days that there is some sort of traction issue.

I have noticed when travelling that azunas struggle to keep time. I travelled again on Saturday and between London and Doncaster it couldn't keep time. I've travelled three times and each time the azume lost time against the timetable. These are on hst and 91 timings and I don't remember those units struggling in the same way.

Every Azuma I see, arrives at stations a head of time and sits for an extra couple of minutes.
Mayebe, there is other reasons for the delays, or newly trained drivers still getting to grips with the different power.

I'm more concerned about them not being able to sell tickets for more than 3 or 4 weeks in advance right now.

I obviously want to travel for as cheap as I possibly can since I'm up and down from Edinburgh to Newcastle every other weekend.

That will be due to the high acceleration of the azuma fleet from each booked stop but won't happen when the full azuma timetable comes into place as journey times will be cut.

Correct, I was replying to the comment that someone said everytime they travel on one it always loses time.

Or mostly an extra stop thrown in!

My experience is most of the delays are caused by other operators.

Early at York. No platform. Late from York following another train. No chance of catching up lost time as the network is too full. Only minor delays but the Azuma has increased the length of the wait as it catches up with the TPE service quicker.

Now two on consecutive days between Grantham & Retford... The one on Tuesday disrupted my trip to Scotland. Perhaps I should've used the Caledonian Sleeper. Oh hang on...

Hard to get too upset over delays when the reason is suicide, yet people still manage to moan about how the train service is rubbish and was much better in the British Rail days etc.! (To be clear not having a dig at anyone on here, just what you overhear at stations when such incidents occur...)

The advice today at Leeds for LNER passengers was basically 'catch any other service or combination of services that'll get you to your destination' e.g. via Manchester or Sheffield
