wondered if anyone has any thoughts on why Raileasy (only place that seems to sell to London International CIV on line) offers some Advance tickets on a test booking Liverpool Lime Street to Euston but does not offer the

'Euro High Saver CIV Single' at £44.80
ie this
http://www.brfares.com/#faredetail?orig=LIV&dest=LNE&grpo=0435&ldn=1&tkt=EVS

from this list of all fares Liverpool to London CIV
http://www.brfares.com/#!farehttp:/...NE&grpo=0435&ldn=1&tkt=EVSs?orig=LIV&dest=LNE

As I understand it this is not a quota controlled ticket so as long as the use time restriction is OK it's the maximum fare you would be expected to pay to get to St Pancras so long as you have onward Eurostar booking.

Does this fare indeed exist in ticket office booking systems if you go in person does anyone know?

ADMINS - just posted here with the cross ref to other thread in case the International Forum query is not picked up by experts here on what I suspect is technically a UK fares query - hope that is OK.

I don't know why it's not selling it to you but you should be able to get it from a station. Last one I bought was from a guard, who raised an eyebrow but issued it with no fuss

OK, so here's where I am:

Booked a flight MAN - Dusseldorf yesterday £281.50. When looking for return train fares for Dusseldorf - Darmstadt (approx €140 / $120), I noticed I could book all the way to London return for only €260 / £230.

So total cost of airfare + UK train to MAN and German train to Darmstadt is approx. £420.

If I get a VTWC off-peak return to Euston or use the "Euro High Saver CIV single" (they are the same price, but the CIV single lets me get into Euston sooner, so safer bet) at £90 + Eurostar + ICE to Darmstadt Super Sparpreis return at £230, even when I include my £25 cancellation charge for the flight (I have until 18:00 today) its still only £345 door to door, with no worries about missing transfers.

Thanks WesternLancer, much appreciated and assuming the trip all goes to plan it's certainly one I'll be looking at using again when time is not so critical. I really have fallen out of love with air travel over the past 20 years.

At the moment you're looking at getting a good London to Germany deal and having trouble tagging on the cheap Liverpool London bit. The other way is to book Liverpool to brussels direct with eurostar, it's showing at about £140 each way, a few quid more in standard premier, then add on Brussels to Germany with dB. Swings and roundabouts.

Thanks, but it doesn't work nearly half as well. £340/£360 just for the LIV-Brussels leg before adding the onward Germany part, but thanks for the suggestion.

I suspect that UK TOCs are releasing very few of the Advance tickets to London Intl to link to Eurostar - thus pushing up fares overall (and giving people a great financial reason to head to the airport...) - this is a shame. Then when you look at ATOCs approach to making tickets to London Intl CIV virtually impossible to buy...

Why does that not surprise me?

Another thing to consider is an InterRail ticket, plus Eurostar passholder fare, this might be cheaper.

I've had the same issue as the OP trying to buy the Crewe-London Version of the CIV ticket online. No problem buying it at my local ticket office.

anyone any idea why there is not a Euro Saver return. There do seem to be on other routes IIRC.
