My mate works at New Street, bottom links are all local work: walsall - Wolverhampton, cross city, rugeley etc. As you progress up the links you get Northampton, Liverpool and (I think) Shrewsbury. Snow Hill does diesel snow Hill lines only. I'm prepared to stand corrected but thats how I understand it.

Thanks a lot, do you know what the situation is at Bristol?

Bristol is still linked work. All new entrants come and stay as GWR drivers.
Bottom link, mainly filled with trainee drivers who have just passed out just to unit
Work and local routes.
There’s then link progression including working of HSTS and more routes.

Top link have just started IET training and route learning as far as Reading. Paddington to follow in next year apparently.

Sorry, another question (or rather, questions)...

Any idea how the shift patterns work in terms of earlies/lates (any nights?)? Earliest starts/latest finishes?

You do a 4 day week of earlies then a 4 day week of lates/nights. Earlies can start from around 0400 onwards but can be as late as 0830 and lates tend to start mid afternoon and can finish as late as 0100 and can also include nights starting at 0001. There's 10 links at New Street so it depends which one you're in obviously but that's a rough guide for you.

Thanks for the info. Waiting for a DMI date at the moment, but just trying to find out a bit about what's hopefully in store for me at some point in the not too distant future :)

What happened with Crossrail? I see it says Plumstead in the list now but not Abbey Wood. Abbey Wood is where drivers sign on at the moment. Not sure whether they will move to Plumstead when it opens or whether they will taxi to the depot from Abbey Wood as required.

In addition the company’s trading name is now MTR Elizabeth line.

This may cause people to groan so take that as prior warning!!...

Does anyone have a list of routes and traction signed by drivers and conductors for each Northern depot? Or be able to point me in the right direction...

Phew....
I’ll try and get the ball rolling and see if anyone else’s picks up. My knowledge of who knows what traction is particularly out of date.
Carlisle
142/153/156/158
Dumfries - Carlisle - Newcastle
Carlisle - Leeds
Skipton
142/150/153/158/321/322/333 (possibly 195/331 as well)
Skipton - Leeds/Bradford FS/Ilkley and all points in between
Skipton - Morecambe via Carnforth
Link 1 drivers add Settle Junction - Carlisle
Workington
142/153/156
Carlisle - Barrow
Barrow
2 links, ex Northern & ex-TPE
Ex TPE
150/153/156/185 (thought not for much longer I would think) 195/331
Barrow - Manchester Airport via Bolton & Wigan
Carnforth - Windermere
Preston - Blackpool
Ex Northern not sure (or if there’s any prospect of harmonisation of work) but they also sign to Carlisle but don’t sign Manchester (I think)
York
142/144 (obvs not for too much longer)/150/153/155/156/158/170/195/331
Newcastle - Manchester Victoria via Peckfield, also via both Bradford & Dewsbury
York - Hull both ways
York - Leeds via Harrogate
Leeds - Selby
Leeds

Northern drivers Leeds
Manchester Piccadilly
142/150/153/156/195/319/323/331
Manchester Piccadilly (and Manchester Oxford Road) to Crewe both ways including Manchester Airport/Stoke/Rose Hill Marple/New Mills Central both ways/Hadfield.
There is a link structure, for drivers it’s 3 non progressive links, which are I believe Preston (who in addition to the above sign Oxford Road - Preston & Kidsgrove - Crewe via Alsager), Lime Street (who sign Oxford Road - Lime Street via the CLC and possibly Chat Moss as well, plus New Mills - Sheffield), and another one I can’t remember but I think it involves Buxton & Chester

GWR also have a Train Manager depot at Swindon.
Do they?? Any idea what work they do?? I’m just about to start TM training for Paddington in a couple of weeks, do you know if transfers are available at any stage if vacancies come up??

Hi all,

I've had a quick mooch through the thread and couldn't see this answered anywhere:

Does anyone know the routes that WMT drivers sign from Snow Hill and New Street depots respectively?

Also how does the WMR/LNWR split work, is it a case of working a bit of both or are you assigned to one or t'other?

Alright mate, as another commenter has said it’s the Snow Hill Lines. So that’s as far as Leamington, Stratford via Dorridge and also via Whitlocks End, Tyseley depot and as far as Great Malvern in the opposite direction. Drivers at Leamington Spa sign all of the above, plus as far as Nuneaton via Coventry.

It's a small depot, so vacancies are few and far between. The do all IET work. I believe Cardiff, Bristol and Cheltenham's.

Internal applications are possible and normally preferred.

Many thanks. Always an option for the future I guess further down the line.

GWR will be halving the number of drivers at Temple Meads and introducing a new BPW depot from either the 15th or 30th.

Nowhere near halving the number. Temple Meads is still and will continue to be a far bigger depot.

Parkway is officially live as of yesterday

Hi,
I'm a qualified driver and would be grateful if a qualified Southern Driver wouldn't mind me me messaging to answer a couple of questions I have about the role..

Thanks
