Delay repay question

I've just wasted a morning trying to get to the start of a guided walk, had to abandon the journey at Haywards Heath so have picked up a delay repay form. One of the mandatory fields to fill in is "Photocard/key card number". Am I correct in thinking this doesn't apply to turn up and go paper tickets, and I can leave this blank?

Delay Repay doesn't apply if you abandoned your journey. You need to obtain a refund from where you purchased your ticket, the refund is not subject to any admin fees.

I abandoned it when it was clear it was a lost cause, had I continued it I would have arrived at Hassocks half an hour later than expected. Does it still apply?

I was using Southern to Three Bridges and Thameslink to Hassocks. The problem is I used the ticket to get as far as Haywards Heath where the second delay occurred (and killed any chance of meeting the walking group in time), so not sure I can claim a refund for not using it. I said at the window at Horsham that I had abandoned my journey and had to turn back because of delays, and he gave me a delay repay form. I might as well send it off and see what happens, I did put a description of what exactly happened in the relevant space, so they can either say yay or nay.

You can claim delay repay - our point is that you would get back more money via the other method

You are entitled the whole fare refunded by the retailer from whom you bought the tickets. This is much better than delay-repay.

If you don't make it to your destination due to disruption regardless how far into your journey ou are, and you abandon it, it's a full refund from the retailer. Delay Repay would be based on the time the next train got to your destination which may not give the full cost of the ticket back.

It rather depends exactly what the disruption was. It appears the OP must have been on 0910 London Bridge - Brighton, which spent 22 minutes at Haywards Heath, and reached Hassocks 19 down. It is a bit of a grey area exactly how long a delay needs to be before it is reasonable to abandon your journey. I suspect the TOC may argue that if your arrival time was that critical, you should have considered taking an earlier train.

There is no lower limit on how disrupted a journey would have to be to abandon it.
