The Clue's in the title folks.
Looking for some new channels as well as sharing some of my own. I'm gonna be quite loose in regards to non train, to mean channels, that don't just solely concentrate on trains.

Lawrie Mechanical Marvels: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcluqeOHYxdRhNPEEou5vBw

Although his channel does have some trains on it, it's mostly road vehicle restoration, Lawrie himself has in infectious personality, but not in that contrived Heeeyy Guuyyys youtubey way, more in that his genuine passion for all thing mechanical, translates well onto the camera. Watching one of his videos is like visiting an over enthusiastic, slightly eccentric friend.

donoteat01 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFdazs-6CNzSVv1J0a-qy4A

Despite an entire video on SEPTA and Pacers, he mostly concentrates on general engineering and town planning, but done in a flat, monotone, slightly exasperated, yet humorous tone that makes for easy listening when I'm getting on with work.

FailRace https://www.youtube.com/user/FailRace

Some very funny car gaming videos, with more unusual or historic vehicles.

The Proper People: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcem9I78ybZLHLRUlkUO3sw

Beautiful cinematography of their urbexing adventures. Does urbex videos without the over dramatisation or the clickbaity stuff.

Idubbbz https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4USoIAL9qcsx5nCZV_QRnA

Because I'm an Edgelord.

I don't have a favourite one right now, but I feel bad for you if those Top 10 video channels were never a part of your YouTube diet!

The Atheist Experience - Call-in show
EVNautilus - Undersea exploration
Monster Bug Wars - Invertebrates fighting with sound effects
AronRa - Taxonomy, evolution and atheism
Drachinifel - Naval history
Forgotten Weapons - "Gun Jesus" seems to present an acceptable side of US gun culture

I might think of more...

Bigclivedotcom, electronics and related things. Leaning to questionable quality Chinese electronics.

Hubnut, car channel, no car is crap in his view and also concerns his haphazard attempts to keep his car collection running. His main cars being a 2CV (Elly), Invacar Model 50 (TWC) and Reliant Fox (Foxanne). He generally changes one car every few months with his main cars being permeant.

Mustie1, another car youtuber. Has a prechant for VW Beetle based vehicles. Can repair almost any engine, with nice long videos going in to a good amount of detail.

Mikeselectricstuff, electronics. Various teardowns, videos on various high end custom architectural lighting projects he is involved with
, plus reverse engineering videos. Has in depth electronics experience/knowledge and his videos are very technical.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
+1 for the likes of Techmoan, Failrace, BigClive and SciManDan. See also,

The Tim Traveller - a new one that popped onto many timelines recently..thanks, weird Youtube algorithm. Tim's not just a train buff but has a ton of geographic stories from around Europe - hugely funny

Technology Connections aka Alec Watson - very much in the same vein as BigClive, Techmoan et al. Explains complex electronics and gadgets in a really engaging manner

Louis Rossman - Manhattan-based electronics repair and Apple-unenthusiast. Currently has a sideplot involving him looking for new store premises

Steve1989 aka Steve Thomas - taster of military rations around the world. Compulsive viewing. "Let's get this out onto a tray... niiiice"

Tucker Gott - Pennsylvania-based master of the paramotor. 22 millions hits-famous for at one point flying it to his local McDonalds

Special mentions to Wendover + Half As Interesting, The Slow Mo Guys, ThamesTV, Jay Foreman and Pecos Hank

It's fascinating how many videos are cab views; and all seem very popular. Wish in the 80's I'd have done the same with a VHS camcorder and tried to sell them...I had thought of that but then who'd be interested??
Yes, I've come across Tim Traveller and Jay Foreman - Jay needs to get on "proper" TV; but what it shows are that the algorithms are working - watch a rail video and up pops Geoff in the suggestions, watch him and up pops Jay; so it's no wonder they are all familiar!
Although I don't mind snooker, I avoid videos as once you click on one you get saturated with snooker suggestions, so I avoid.
Also a pet hate, someone does a video of sightseeing and all we see is their face as a selfie. What's the point of that??

To be fair, Jay and Geoff have done videos together..see their A1 collab for instance. There's a wider range of YT folks that either collaborate or reference each other (Ashens and Tom Scott seem to be at the centre of quite a broad Venn diagram), so the algorithm definitely has 'help' ;)

Most, if not all, of the suggestions in this thread have been either educational or entertaining. If you think YouTube is only about ranting you might be missing a lot which would interest, educate and entertain you.

Could you maybe create a Youtube channel for rants? I'm sure there'd be quite a few subscribers from here :D

No idea how! Plus i have a face and voice for radio! Also, not sure I would survive financially considering the libel laws in the UK!

PS see below

I am fine for education and entertainment, thanks. I get that by reading widely in, you know, old fashioned books writ by them actual experts.

I have absolutely no interest in crack pot enthusiasts wibbling on about machinery or dull stuff. Furthermore, I detest spottery videos of trains and the silly captions and commentary people seem to need to add. Seeing a class 37 isnt MEGA RARE! And if you mention clag or tonez you should be shot. Hard.

Ps Oh and buy a wind mike ffs.

(Anyway podcasts are much more my thing)

Journey to the Microcosmos - amazing videos of microscopic creatures and the narrator has a very relaxed, calm and soothing style, so different from many YouTube presenters.

I like cat videos of course.

They were the backbone of YouTube, change my mind.
If it makes you feel any better I enjoy this one from time to time - my excuse is it's a form of 'continuous professional development' for my own driving <:D

I've been binge watching these videos the past few days; I really need to get a life!!

(and it nearly always seems to be the cammer at fault in these videos...)

Another planet...
+1 for Hubnut. Another good car-related YouTube channel is Regular Car Reviews, which manages to skirt the boundary between satire and serious... most of the time!
For nerdy-techy stuff (and much more), besides those already mentioned ashens is worth a try if you've been living in a cave for 8 years.

Ashens - tech and comedy

SciShow - self explanatory

PBS Eons - normally videos on geology, prehistoric life and evolution.

PBS Space Time - a mix of astronomy and theoretical physics

The Mighty Jingles - mature gaming, mainly the various Wargaming games and similar things.

ManyATrueNerd - a non shouty gaming guy, tends to be 4X games and Fallout.

An excellent channel from an enthusiastic and infectious, responsible, urban explorer from Manchester who loves sharing Manchester's industrial history. Well recommended.

Check out his latest video on Manchester's UMIST building. You'll not be disappointed...

Excellently presented too.

People here seem to watch more intellectual channels than I do! :'(

I did say Idubbbz was in my list of suggestions if it makes you feel better.

I concur with the Jay Foreman suggestions, I'll definitely give Hubnut a go, he looks very good.
Technology Connections, top notch channel.
Bigclivedotcom, electronics and related things. Leaning to questionable quality Chinese electronics.
Never heard of Bigclive but I definately think I'll add him to my watch list.

Another suggestion is Wendover Productions, he covers a lot of world logistics, with a focus on air travel, something I'm not normally interested in but he makes it engaging.
