I spent a few days in the Gorbals last week staying with a relative. They said that there were plans to convert part of the bridge across the river into a "park" but didn't have any further information.

One thing struck me - having a station in the area would bring opportunities for the local population and I think it might be well used.

.

Can’t see how when the bridge is used for empty stock moves. There is also talk of using it for a future metro system.

Glasgow must be among the most suitable British cities for a German-style S-Bahn system, with the two East-West low-level lines and the potential for a North-South cross-city route via the route under discussion. The issue then comes with choosing which routes to either side of the city to adopt, and whether a central station on this route would cause problems for connections if not well sited for the current Central and Queen Street stations (I'm not overly familiar with the location of the City Union line, and which routes would be easiest to divert that way.

Ideally (if money were no object) a new deep-level north-south tunnel with platforms beneath both main termini would be a better fit, but we're already into "Speculative Ideas" territory!
