Is this true on the 442 thread it someone has said 707's are to replace 455/456's on the Shepperton line and 442's are in turn to replace 707's on the Windsor line surely that can't be right it would seem so illogical wouldn't it be easier for them to take over the Reading services or are they not cleared?

Do you have a quote?

If someone has said that this is happening, I assume it was an example of dramatic irony, and not to be taken seriously.

If anyone wishes to make a proposal for this to happen, then this would need to be suggested in the appropriate forum section, and any such posting in the wrong section can be reported using the report button.

In short: it aint gonna happen.

I’m Not going to say it can’t happen, but in service more that likely it won’t happen.

For reference or those of you who are interested, a 442 has been to Windsor & Eaton Riverside, and Shepperton, before. This being on the 3rd of February 2007 on South West Trains’s Class 442 Farewell tour.

Photo of 2412 at Windsor can be found here.

Quote from the aforementioned 442 thread - post 4275 "There are insufficient units to run the scheduled services with full length formations now and six additional units at least appear to be required on the Windsor side from December"

and..post 4276:

Isn't this because they're taking 707s from the Windsor's to run Shepperton services?.

2 different issues:
a) extra services on the Windsor lines from December
b) performance of the Shepperton services isn't great and caused bad reactionary delays elsewhere. Hence using 707s improved performance to improve Shepperton service performance and reactionary delays.

So in summary, they need some 442s in service so that the overall fleet plan for the Dec timetable works. It’s a huge jump to conclude that means anything other than an internal cascade of suitable stock to provide extra Windsor side services. It will almost certainly mean that some 450s will move back to a few Windsor side routes that they’ve regularly appeared on in the past. Hopefully by December there’ll be no 444s being refurbished and very few 450s left to do.

Or 455s, particularly if they really are putting 707s on the Shepperton services.

So as it stands currently they are stuffed for the timetable change without the 442s. The other factor is do they have enough crews for the new services. Given they can’t even reliably resource the current timetable, the answer would seem to be “no”.

What’s the odds on the extra services being planned cancellations?
