(Replying to post #2380 on the LNER Class 800 / 801 Azuma thread in the 'Traction and Rolling Stock'
section)

From looking at the LNER Azuma section on LNER's website, it looks as though 10-car Azuma's will only be used on the routes to and from Leeds and London.

If I've understood this correctly, are the 10-car Azuma diagrams the routes to and from Leeds and London because if they have to run as 5 coaches, it won't be all the way to or from Scotland?

Plus, as the 5 and 10-car Azuma's lack a Quiet Coach, having this to and from Leeds and London isn't so bad when you think about the distance between London and beyond Edinburgh.

Thank you. My gosh they are going to get in a mess when the service goes wrong as it did yesterday with the sad suicide. I can just see someone turning up for a seat in a coach that does not exist because it is a 9 coach train instead of a 10!

Will the Middlesbrough services not be (if and when) 5 car?

Considering that there are still 30 full length (i.e. 9-car) EMUs missing from the LNER fleet I don't think anyone can assume anything about what the final distribution will look like!

Plenty of services lack a quiet coach, and tbh it isn't really that useful since everyone uses their smartphone these days.
Just a waste of capacity, I'd rather they were abolished tbh

Surprised the York-London "stopper" services won't go to the 5 car units (as 10s), unless the idea is that they stay interworked with longer trips?

No problem, easiest thing to double check is on the LNER ticket thing, will tell you if it’s Azuma. Pretty sure that one was on 18th..

Are none of the Friday services pre 10:00 calling at York in the southbound direction Azumas? I've just been looking for cheaper fares via Leeds until I realised I had the wrong date. Switched the date, took out the 'via' point, but none of the Friday services pre 10am are listed as an 'Azuma' service.

No, because they dont run any Azumas off Heaton yet and the one which runs from Craigentinny is non-stop to Kings Cross from Newcastle.

Looks like the Stirling starter (0857 from York to Kings Cross) becomes an Azuma in the week beginning 18 November and the Sunderland starter (0701 from York to Kings Cross) two weeks later.

Does anyone know if there is a regular/fairly regular 8XX diagram that does Doncaster to Leeds via Ferrybridge, or would it just be the occasional diverts

I don't think any LNER services to Leeds go that way? The 2200 from Kings Cross to Newcastle goes that way and once that goes over to Azuma will therefore be a regular via Ferrybridge but otherwise that's it as far as I'm aware. The 2333 from Kings to Leeds goes via Knottingley but hangs a left and carries on towards Pontefract rather than up towards Ferrybridge.

The 2333 goes a variety of different routes.
It's not unusual for it to go through Wakefield Westgate.

Which Edinburgh southbound services are currently booked Azuma and can you tell from RTT which are ?

No currently the timing loads that RTT is using are the same as they always have been. Your best bet is to use the LNER journey planner as that will show "LNER Azuma" next to services which are booked to be an Azuma.

Is it feasible to put the remaining Class 91 and HST LNER diagrams on the 'frequently requested diagrams' entry?

I suspect those pages take a bit of work - but they are an excellent resource.

If you put a 5 car on those, they would be full and standing before they left York.

Also they Interwork, ie 1402 to Kings Cross then forms 1730 to Edinburgh.

I did say "As 10s", meaning as pairs. But if the diagrams interwork (and will continue to do so) then that makes sense.

(as an aside, what fool managed to make it so that with the east coast fleet the 800/1 is the 9 car and /2 is the 5 car, but the 801/1 is the 5 car and the /2 is the 9 car?)
