SPT-liveried '216 on diagram including 1115 Glasgow Central-Glasgow Central.
205 and 210 were the other units out this afternoon.
Anyone know what’s happening with 314204 and 314215? I’m surprised the two units have yet to make their last journey
where are the 314's being taken for scrap?
Most of those which have gone by rail have gone to Sims Metals of Newport. However the past isn’t necessarily a guarantee of the future - the current scrapping programme for 313s 314s and 315s is seeing units go elsewhere too - Booths of Rotherham have taken a few units, with a couple also going to EMR Kingsbury. Naturally there must be a logic to it, but outwardly it does seem a little random.
So far there’s been very few pictures of events inside the yards, though plenty of pictures of the delivery runs.
Anyone know if theres going to be a farewell tour ?
Or if Bo'ness is going to get a set? Hard to argue that they've not played an important part in Scottish railway history over 40 years....
Been rumoured a few times.
Nice idea, but I think one driving car in Riverside might be the most we'll see.
I think they could come up with something really interesting having the 380 mock-up in Riverside, they could show the new and old or something along those lines. Considering the 314s and 380s worked together out of Central I think that would be a nice idea.
Was at Summerlee the other week and I find it a travesty that the 311 is in such bad nick. It’s literally been left at the far side of the yard to rot away in the rain when it could have been preserved so much better.
The 311 at summerlee I think was always going to be kept the way it is. I don’t think they ever had intentions to keep it nice as they knew the had similar at Bo’ness.
there’s a sign next to the unit asking for volunteers to help with it. Looks like it’s been there a while though...
Today marks 40 years since the first 314s entered passenger service, although both sets which worked the first journey are now withdrawn. On 26th October 1979, 314204 and 314208 were the first two units in passenger service. They were used on the North Clyde route, ahead of the Argyle Line's November 1979 opening.
Fantastic. I was hoping the 314s would be able to make it to 40 years of service.
