i have a day travelcard for between Folkestone stations and London zones 1-6.
I was delayed 2 hours on an overground journey from west croydon to highbury and Islington
The value of my travelcard was £80.80
And i was expecting to get the full amount but i've just received an email saying i will receive £3.10 which is the single fare.
Does this sound correct? If so I don't understand the logic behind it

If West Croydon to Highbury and Islington was a standalone journey not linked to either journey involving Folkestone then I think the normal fare is what is used. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

If you were delayed by an Overground service then their delay repay scheme applies. IIRC this only pays the equivalent of the single fare between the stations.

Although £3.10 is the off peak Oyster single fare. I would have though that the appropriate fare to base delay repay on would be the equivalent day single at £6.40.

Ok thanks for the thoughts everyone.
I thought a 2 hour delay any part of a journey would mean a complete refund of ticket cost, but happy to be corrected.
As another question, can i also claim for a delay on the train there from southeastern on the same ticket? Ir if you claim from one company then that's your lot per ticket?

If you were travelling from Folkestone to Highbury & Islington in one go, then you can claim for a refund from TfL.

Arrived over an hour late to your final destination
If you were delayed:

  • On a London Overground or TfL Rail service, and
  • Your journey included travel outside the pay as you go area, and
  • You arrived at your destination over an hour late
Your refund can be calculated as set out in the National Rail Conditions of Travel (see the section on 'Compensation for delays').

Well yes i went from Folkestone to st pancras to highbury and Islington.
It was in one go but obviously involved changes, however my end destination was over 2 hours late

Looks like you're entitled to 50% compensation then. The image below is from the National Rail Conditions of Travel.

The thing is if you go to the tfl website, apart from making you sign in every other minute and prove you're not a robot, it says 'at which tfl station did you start your journey' and 'which tfl station did you end your journey?' So I don't know how to incorporate the full details of my journey

I'm not sure I quite understand this. You're claiming for a delay from West Croydon to H&I, which doesn't seem consistent with the above comment. The expected route on a journey from Folkestone to St Pancras on HS1 and then to H&I would be direct by Victoria line.

I'm guessing that as your ticket was costed via HS1 you arrived into St Pancras and maybe then went to West Croydon and then to H&I, but if this isn't the case perhaps you could set out exactly what journeys were made. I suspect if you want to claim more than what's offered, you'll have to offer this clarity to try and persuade TfL why you are entitled to more. Though if I'm correct, it wouldn't seem reasonable to be asking for half your total fare, as you could have taken a direct route and arrived on time.

It's correct for a journey from West Croydon to Highbury and Islington

What journey did you actually make?

Can you state you intended itinerary and what actually happened? Also, what day was it?

At what point on the journey did the delay occur? The rule is that you claim from the train company you were travelling with when things started to go wrong. So who was this?

Or did you have a delay on your inbound journey into London and then, take a break from travelling to do something else, and then encounter a further delay when using the Travelcard element of your ticket.
