Good morning everyone. I've just become aware of a bus crash in Orpington (this happened last night) which was reported on Twitter.

The name rang a bell but when I discovered it was in London I was like "What???!"

That's a pretty bad one - one that's resulted in a fatality unfortunately.

One person had died and a number of people have been left injured after two buses and a car collided on Sevenoaks Road in #Orpington. Met Police say they were called at 10.12pm. A number of casualties are currently being treated at the scene.

BBC report:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-50258092
One person died and 15 were injured in a crash involving two buses and a car in south-east London.

The driver of the car has been arrested over the collision on Sevenoaks Road in Orpington, on Thursday night.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and 15 people were taken to hospital, London Ambulance Service said. Three have serious injuries.

The arrested man was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, the Met said.

According to one eyewitness, the crash happened at the bottom of The Avenue at the junction of Park Avenue and Sevenoaks Road.

The BBC report hinting strongly that he is a minicab driver:
[An eyewitness] told the BBC the car involved in the crash was a Skoda with a Transport for London (TfL) licence disc in the windscreen.

Very sad indeed. Condolences to the family of the Orpington-based bus driver who I see has been named by GoAhead London on their website. GoAhead London have started a JustGiving page in support of the driver's family: so far it has raised (at the time of writing this) £3,503 of its £5000 target.

Let us hope it gets to at least £5000.

My condolences to the drivers family and colleagues, a crowd funding page has been set up.

I have linked a message from Go Ahead confirming that one of their drivers sadly died in the crash. It is too early to say what caused it and they ask that staff refrain from public comment out of respect to the driver and that they are all united in grief.

As at 14:15hrs, 03-Nov: £15,014 (300%). Good indeed that so many people are contributing.

It is heartwarming to see the reaction from the bus industry, and others. Some Stagecoach South East garages held 1 minute silences today, for example.
