Hi

I have my stage 2 next week and had a quick query regarding the interview.

how much detail are they looking for in your answers? And are they looking for specific examples or as long as you cover the question that is sufficient?

thanks.

When you give them the answers on paper at the start of the day they just want you to be quite brief, a few sentences should be fine. They will then use that basic answer to interview you and will want lots of detail that all fits together well and doesn’t contradict anything you have already said. They will push for times and jump back and forth within your story so it’s best to not make stuff up as they will soon notice if things don’t quite add up. They will ask how the situations made you feel as well.
Throughout the interview they are looking to hear how you assessed the situation, what that then meant you had to do (your task), your reaction/what you did to achieve the task and what the result was. Answering in this way is called STAR Situation Task Action Result. Within your answers in this structure they also need to hear how you were safety conscious, calm, were safety conscious, that you followed rules, were safety conscious, that you could work well with others and alone, were safety conscious, that you have transferable non technical skills(concentration etc.), were safety conscious. I think you can see where I’m going with the safety haha.
Don’t be afraid to take time to think and recall in your memory, tell them you would like a few seconds to think though rather than umming and Arring.
There is loads more information on here to look for on the subject of mmi if you do a search bud (most of it much better written and with more detail than what I’ve told you).

Where are you in the application process out of interest?
Best of luck mate, hope all goes well.

You will find yourself going into quite minute detail at times during the interview - Felt as though I was training the interviewer in how to do a fuel delivery at one point!

I found that when I wasn't giving enough detail, my interviewer was good at prompting and probing to get to the level of detail she wanted. As long as you are honest with your answers, you should have no problem with it because it basically boils down to a chat about things you've done at work or wherever else.
It was looking for specific examples, but if it's a task you do on a daily basis, you can just talk about the last time you did it ('During my last shift at work....')
You are, to an extent, put on the spot when giving the written answers and, after going away and having a think over lunch, I wasn't happy with an answer I had written down - When it came to the interview and elaborating on the answer, I asked if I could change my answer and the interviewer was happy for me to do so.

As above, you'll probably find yourself sounding like a broken record re: following process, working safely, remaining calm, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks guys

that makes more sense. So assuming that as long as I provide a good example which shows safety awareness and that I am risk assessing situations then I should be ok?

Sorry guys one more question. I plan on using all examples from the job that I have been in for 5 years. Or will they want a mixture from different jobs and personal life?

As long as the examples fit each question well, they won’t mind if all of your examples are from work. Conversely, they don’t mind if all your examples are from your home life, as long as they fit each question appropriately.

It doesn’t matter, aslong as the answers fit the question, you can even use the same answer for multiple questions aslong as it fits.
