Does anyone know if there is a minimum connection time between Manchester Victoria and Piccadilly. I am planning on travelling from Scarborough to Stafford and although I can book to Piccadilly with a change at Leeds I would prefer to get settled and stay onto Victoria and walk to Pic. I will arrive at Vic at 953 and the train from pic is at 1027 (I have walked between the 2 before so I know I can easily make it) coming back I would have an hour to change between the 2.

As I will travel on advance tickets it is more for knowing I would be able to get the next train if I missed my connection due to the trains being late into Manchester.

10 min for MAN ( http://www.brtimes.com/#!board?stn=MAN&date=20191105 )
+ 22 min for the transfer (click fixed links to see them)
+ 5min for MCV ( http://www.brtimes.com/#!board?stn=MCV&date=20191105 )

= 37 min

If the trains are on time you will have loads of time to spare, but if not you aren't covered

Are you able to say what date you are travelling? It may be possible to buy tickets that allow you to travel via MAN or MCV; then the only way you are not covered is if a delay occurs to the train after it departs Huddersfield and does not affect the following train (which is highly unlikely, e.g. if the delay occurred near Ashton under Lyne station)

You need 37 minutes for an official connection. Sorry.

interchange at Victoria: 5 minutes
Transfer: 22 minutes
Interchange at Piccadilly: 10 minutes

Thank you both for your quick replies I will book the train to Piccadilly with the change at Leeds instead as it gives me 20 minutes to change at Piccadilly.

Yesterday I was at Piccadilly hoping to board the 09:40 Freebus route 2 to Victoria to catch the 10:02 TPE Nova 1 from there to Leeds. But by 09:42 there was no sign of the bus and I assumed it was cancelled. So I walked to Victoria with time to spare and easily caught my train. I'd therefore say that a brisk walk of 20 minutes is all it takes, but you might want to allow longer for peace of mind.

Looking at a random date on Trainsplit, the cheapest combo actually includes a walk-up combination between HUD & MAN, with Advance fares either side.

If it was me, I'd show my booking confirmation to the Guard and say something like "I don't mind the walk across Manchester; would you let me stay on this train please?"

If the Guard says yes I would stay on and walk across Manchester. If not, I'd get the cheaper train that calls at the station known as 'Slawit' (the combo includes a split there) ;)

That way, you can't lose!

If the train is delayed, then you seek staff advice on whether to change at HUD or MCV and follow that advice; you'd have a valid itinerary so totally covered in the event of delays, and of course you can claim Delay Repay for the whole journey from Scarborough to Stafford. Much better than risking it with an invalid split that could cause you to lose out on compensation as well as shelling out a new XC fare.

I think most Guards would say yes and not require that you change at HUD. If you want to know if it passes the reasonableness test, I'll invite @Solent&Wessex to respond ;)

It is Saturday 25th Jan and back the same day. I was looking at:
Scar 0734 - man Vic 0951
Pic 1027 - Stafford 1125

Stafford 1828 - Pic 1924
Vic 2030 - Scar 2251

I can get the 0734 with a change at Leeds and get into Pic at 1004 for the same price.

Looks like it's not cheaper to do the Huddersfield split on that date; I'd stick with the extra change, and not walking across Manchester if it was me.

The walking time isn't the issue here, it's the minimum connection time for the sake of being delayed into Piccadilly.
