Thanks for the update - are they going to be restored?

A very long term ambition, likely to only be realised once the Q stock is completed and a solution to operate heritage stock on the new signalling system is installed and verified on both the Q and 1938 stock.

Ah, that makes sense. I'm glad to hear that action is being taken to future-proof preserved stock and allow it to run on lines with new signalling. Presumably something similar needs to be done with battery locomotives - a small batch were fitted with Victoria Line ATO equipment back in the sixties, so it's been done before.

It would corrode into iron filings within about a month.
I saw them lift The Mary Rose out of the Solent in the 1980s.
This could be our offering to future historians...

You mean chuck one off the end of Ryde Pier for it to be recovered in 400 years time?

Yep.
And you’ll earn a Blue Peter badge if you can find any of it after six decades weeks.

Without getting too OT, the original Vic line ATO is a hugely different beast to modern systems. There are some significant issues at the moment with getting Engineers' Vehicles (EVs) working on the sub-surface resignalling. As an aside, none have been fitted with the Vic's new system either.
