I don't think it's likely, but unless there are Marston Vale style level crossing/signal sighting issues I don't see why the back loco would need to be on the platform.

Completely agree that it’s unlikely. As far as I know the Mk5a stock hasn’t been tested in top and tail mode, and nor have staff been trained on this. On today’s railway getting that signed off would probably take forever and a day;)

I suspect there will be a quick software update, some test runs off MID and all will be well again.

Not sure if that would work? I suspect that for platform lengths you'd need to drop to 4-car sets, but I'm not sure it's at all easy to knock an intermediate car out of a Mk5A set? (It would of course have to be an intermediate and not the DT itself, as you would need the DT's buffers.)
The original plan was for the mark 5 sets to run in top and tail mode as four car sets, prior to the delivery of the driving traillers:
https://www.railmagazine.com/news/rail-features/tpe-s-new-trains
The first seven sets will be used in top-and-tail mode, with Rake 8 the first set with a Driving Trailer, Davis explains. As more DTs are delivered, so the ‘68s’ will operate in push-pull method.
However I too am unsure how that would have worked for the reasons that you have stated.

Top and tail mode (rather a full set of 5 cars with a loco on each end) is already programmed into ASDO for rescue purposes. For example a loco attached to the DT dragging the failed train set.

Anyway, regardless the software issue is sorted now so back to normal from Monday. No sets out this weekend anyway as LIV is shut.

Thanks for that, appreciated.

Fantastic news that all is sorted.

At least I was right about ‘I suspect there will be a quick software update, some test runs off MID and all will be well again.’:)

I noticed the following this afternoon:
3Z68 13:30 MID-Crewe
3Z69 14:38 Crewe-MID

Not sure but I think it was 68019, definitely a Nova 3 set.

Finally got a ride on these things this afternoon, all the way from Lime Street back to Scarbs. The 68 on the front got the train moving really quickly on the climb out of Lime Street, and the whole experience was a world away from the overcrowded, drafty 185 that I've grown used to. It was genuinely pleasant to get comfy and know that I wouldn't have a dose of whatever weather was happening outside at each station stop.

Excellent images. I particularly like the one of the DT with the passengers looking on admiringly! Couldn’t agree more with your review of the Nova 3 journey experience:)

It is a valid use of them if one of the other target users does not require the seat. There is no requirement to leave them empty, simply to willingly give them up if they are needed more than you need them.
How would anyone know you're not a PRM to ask you to move? How would you know that I was if I was sat in one with my folding cane folded? It doesn't surprise me you don't get asked to move because there aren't often enough idiots to fillall the priority seats so usually one is available.

I find it fascinating watching the public reaction to the Nova 3. So many people look at them, the striking livery (foils) know how to show people this this is something totally different! I've heard people get on and say "wow, this is a nice train"! But the best was an elderly woman on platform three at York who'd just got off one and walked straight up to the driver standing in the doorway of his big CAT (68) and saying.... "thank you, and what a fantastic train". Joe public deserve decent trains like this, the sooner we get rid of old rubbish stock the better

I couldn’t agree more with what you’ve written there, the public love the Nova 3s. A common comment in standard is ‘are you sure this isn’t First Class’!

The latest set to undergo fault free running has now seen a considerable number of runs. Fingers crossed for this set being accepted by TPE in the near future.

with 6 on the books- could see a step up in diagrams assuming enough drivers and Crews are passed out on them
