Crossrail have added a couple of new videos to their YouTube channel. One is about train testing and the other is about the signalling. Unfortunately there is a distinct lack of deatil in both of them.

Train testing:

Signalling

Is it just me that would like them to say somthing non trivial?

321416 and 321426 had a spell on hire to NXEA in 2007/8 during which they predominately worked the following diagram.

Indeed, my sole journey on 321416 was on 2W43 in November 2008.

Obviously it doesn't happen now.

On the matter of 345s, I have only seen reports of the following in operation. Are any other 7-cars at Old Oak or migrating over to Ilford?

Original batch 345003/5-17/22
Conversions 345029/39/40/42/44/47/49
9-cars on west side operation 345030/5/7

Other postings have suggested that 345027/8/34 are also available for 9-car passenger operation and that 345038 may be another 7-car.

You can add 345052 to the list of conversion to 7 coach units as that was operating out west today

345024, 345033 and 345050 were in the Royal Oak turn back facility at lunch time today, when I was going into Paddington.

With regards to the Class 345, there’s currently a simulator of it at the London Transport Museum which gives some understanding to the layman of both ATO and normal running.

However I noticed that while it was in ATO mode, it still had the DSD button you had to press to acknowledge or the brakes would come on.

Now if the train is in ATO mode, should it need any interaction with the driver to acknowledge a brake demand?

I would imagine that the driver is still expected to monitor the train and its surroundings and pull the emergency brake when necessary. This requires the driver remaining vigilant at all times.

I can imagine allowing ATO without a DSD would be frowned upon, especially after the recent Jubilee line incident.

Think that could present a little bit of an issue with the Auto-Reverse / Paddington to Westbourne Park reversing lines while driver traverses the unit functions?

At that point there is not supposed to be any passengers. Does that make any difference?

Why would you need a dsd for ato apart from to keep the driver awake.

I imagine if it's like the bulk if ato then

Once the driver starts the train moving the train starts and stops itself as far as it has a movement authority or until the next station stop what would be the point of a dsd when the driver has no input into power taken.

DSD needed for areas without ATO.
In the core the driver having to do the door closing provides a less frequent DSD type check while already stationary.

I had 345 051 taking me to Shenfield this morning. Still had the new train smell, any idea how long this unit has been in service? 345 049 arrived on the following service.

Started on the west side around two weeks ago - obviously since transferred east.

The 'cleaners sheet' in the cabin at Hayes & Harlington indicates that 345059 was out earlier but replaced at Paddington by 345052 on 9T16 0847 London Paddington to Hayes & Harlington.

Updated list of 345s in service therefore
345003/5-17/22 (original 7-car)
345029/39/40/2/4/7/9/51/2/7/9 (7-car)
345027/8/30/4/5/7 (9-car)

Any others?

As far as I have seen reported:

345027 is reported as one of the six 9-cars that can work in passenger service after the late evening switchover.

345050 is reported as a 9-car used for tunnel testing

345067 not reported - assume 9-car

Many thanks Jonathan. I only log them as seen if they are complete 9 car units.

According to Geoff Marshall's web blog, TfL started running 7-coach Class 345 services to Reading yesterday, 26 Nov 2011, morning. His vlog, The First Elizabeth Line Train From Reading, may be found here at <
>

Two trains from Reading and one from Maidenhead in the morning and equivalent returns in the evening.

Does anyone else find it odd that the posters in Liverpool Street about the introduction of the 345’s resemble more of the SWR’s 701’s than they do the 345’s themselves?
