Does anyone know if they offer you a position at the interview or do you have to wait to hear from them at a later date? Just wondering.

Somebody has already answered the same question you asked yesterday in the WMT thread!

I don't know when you last had an interview but I've never had a job offered to me during an interview and as far as I am aware I've not come across anyone offered the same.

You've got to remember we now live in a competitive market for jobs and I'm not necessarily talking about jobs in the rail industry. If you do get to an interview stage you are most certainly up against other candidates and any interview panel in the right mind will not be making any decision until afterwards. Sometimes even interviewers themselves don't make the final decision - they will discuss their experience of the respective candidates with senior HR staff who will make the final decision on who gets the job.

I'm presently job hunting myself for a career with a TOC - the quickest I was told I had been unsuccessful was the day after my interview while the longest I had to wait was a full week. From reading the posts on here, some forum members are waiting weeks and months for an update after an interview.

I don't want to sound blunt but you seriously need to understand these jobs are are in high demand and you will be playing the waiting game.

You tend to get a medical invite which is the giveaway, then a phone call asking when you can start.

I get what you mean, I asked because I saw someone post about it saying about it and some people have said you get offered at the end of the interview was just checking if it was true or not with others.

I've just gone through the process to be a conductor at WMT. I found out the day after my interview that I was successful despite being told it could take 2 weeks. I was then given a start date within a week...although I'm still awaiting a date for my medical. I've had to take the risk and resign from my current job due to my notice period...although should it all go wrong, I had a good and honest chat with my current line manager and will be leaving on good terms. Told the door would be left open for me to return should it not work out so if it all goes wrong in the next couple of months, I might not end up jobless!

Going back to the original point, I think it all depends on their timing. For example, I'm on the January course but I know the previous course starts in 2 weeks time. They said in the email there's a bit of a backlog of medicals at the moment so potentially could still be working through the November starters.

At anther time when it's less manic it might then be the case of medical first, then start date. At the moment though, it seems like it's a case fill the places on the upcoming courses then work through the medicals.

For the driving positions, I should think the situation is much more complicated and drawn out, but like the conducting, I'm should think they are plugging away at getting everyone who has been successful started at some point.

Hi all. I applied back in April. My application says it's still under consideration. Are a lot of people getting stage one invites .?

I applied last Feb so thats probably why. Saying that, plenty who applied at the same time as me have gone through the whole lot and started training already so I dont think there is any logic to the application process.

Quick question to all those who have completed there stage 1.

1. How long did it take to get your results?
2. How long after completing stage 1 did you get invited to stage 2?

Curses, there were no slots left when I went to apply for an assessment slot.

I’ve contacted recruitment asking if I’ll get another assessment date soon, I’d be bloody gutted if that was that.
