Hello all,
Having seen Part Time Spotter's site (here) with the Class 717 diagrams on it, I was wondering - is there anything online which is similar to this for the units which work the Cotswold Line? (e.g. Class 800s, 802s, 165s, and 166s)? I don't know a lot about diagrams, but I do know, from this thread, that they are essentially the list of services a certain unit will work on a particular day.

The aforementioned Class 717 diagrams seem to be in the following format:

Is there any type of diagram for units which work out of Oxford or Worcester? Please let me know if I am getting everything wrong as well.

Thanks very much in advance,

-Peter

Is there any type of diagram for units which work out of Oxford or Worcester?

Yes, all units will be allocated to a diagram.

The Turbos are all on the London & Thames Valley traction diagrams, all are prefixed RG (for Reading, their Home Depot):

RG2xx - Class 165 2 cars
RG3xx - Class 165 3 cars
RG4xx - Class 166 3 cars

(When we had the two 150/0 units, their diagrams were RG6xx and the class 387 EMU diagrams are all RG7xx)

The IETs are all on HSS (High Speed & Sleeper) traction diagrams, they are:

IW901 - 913 = Class 802 9 car
IW951 - 970 = Class 802 5 car
NP51 - 69 = Class 800 9 car
NP101 - 132 = Class 800 5 car.

As for headcodes:

Class 1 down trains to Oxford will run as 1Dxx, Class 1 down trains going over the Cotswolds line will use 1Wxx.
Class 1 up trains will use 1Pxx

Any Class 2 train running over the Cotswolds line which either starts or terminates at Oxford will use 2Exx.

attached are two traction diagrams (old ones) as an example of each type (LTV / HSS):

Interestingly, despite the NR WTT stating that Class 2 services over the Cotswolds which either start or terminate at Oxford will use 2Exx, you will notice on RG202 that the 05.14 Oxford - Worcester FS actually runs as 2W10.

Thanks very much! A lot of very interesting information. So is the "W" in the headcodes for "Worcester"? And then "P" is for "Paddington"? Or is that purely coincidental?
Those diagrams you've attached are also very interesting. Cheers!

Thanks,

-Peter

And the current 2E92 from Worcester terminates at Didcot, while 2E20 runs from Reading to Moreton-in-Marsh.

Though this appears to be being tidied up from next month, with the three planned Turbo workings, irrespective of starting and end points (which will be Oxford, Didcot, Worcester and Moreton-in-Marsh) all receiving 2Exx reporting numbers.

More than likely just coincidental. A Class 1 train going to any of the following, Moreton-in-Marsh, Evesham, Great Malvern and Hereford will also be 1Wxx.

There are numerous other ‘destination code’ letters for Class 1 services heading to Paddington, for example:
1Axx: from Bristol TM
1Lxx: from S. Wales (also Cheltenham)
1Kxx: from Bedwyn

At the start of every Working Timetable book (which can be found on the Network Rail website https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/the-timetable/working-timetable/) there is an explanation of all the relevant destination codes for that particular section eg all the services on the former Western Region are to be found in books PA - PF.

Just to add to that, this applies to other routes as well.

So 1Bxx headcodes are used for Nottingham to St Pancras services, and 1Cxx headcodes are used for Sheffield to St Pancras services.
1Cxx headcodes are also used out of Paddington for services to Bristol, and 1Bxx used for South Wales services.
As you can see, there is an overlap of headcodes between regions, I bet there could be 3 or 4 services that share the same headcode throughout the day.

A useful reminder for these services - which are part of the two routes from Wootton Bassett Junction (just west of Swindon, and excluding some exceptions) is:
The Bravos (1Bxx) are via Badminton [Bristol Parkway].
and
The Charlies (1Cxx) are via Chippenham [Box].

Other reminders that are helpful are:
Kilos -> 1Kxx/2Kxx -> Kintbury [B&H].
Deltas -> 1Dxx -> Didcot [GWML].

Oh OK. Thanks very much. I'll have to have another proper look at the WTT - I've downloaded the WR sections you describe already I think. :)
