I think the Pendolinos will stay largely white, with a logo at each end rather than a new look along the whole train. It looks like it's going to be a South-West-North triangular logo, which I guess encompasses a lot of the route but not all. I think a simple arrow logo would have been better pointing west <-

Personally I think this would be good. The Pendolinos look very classy with shiny white carriages and the silver doors.

Are their actually any pendolinos left with virgin branding on the outside? I have seen 6 pendolinos at or passing through stafford today. All were debranded

There was one at Edinburgh today that still had the Virgin logo. I couldn't tell you what the number was, but it was ready to form the 16:52 to Euston (9M60).

I don't mind the white and they look so much better with the black band across the windows. I'm looking forward to seeing the new branding, but I don't think the livery is going to change much apart from addition of the new operator logo. It depends how much of an 'impact' FT want to make when they take over - I bet there's been some wacky ideas in the design team!

Now that we know the name, any takers on whether the sets will keep their names? Will Virgin Pride become "Pride"? My expectations is they'll be replaced. Either with something to do with progress rather than history or something Italian that not many people will know.

I would have thought all names will be replaced.
I hope they stick with some sort of City names as now but in a different format, maybe with there Italian twin.
Also names with some meaning to the routes the trains will be travelling.

I've never been keen on city names myself due to route changes and just general upkeep that you can't include everywhere on the network. I know that Joe Bloggs really isn't bothered about the set he's getting on, as long as it's on time and not cancelled. If First had many records they could use that - let's say (entirely fictitious) "First Power" with plug sockets or "First Refresh" with unlimited water. Just ideas, but linking the brand to the offering. I know these are lame haha, but I'm not a marketer :E

All sounds equally as dross as the Virgin garbage.

Hopefully they'll sort out the 390 interiors!

I really hope that isn’t the new logo, or at least there is more to the branding than just putting that on each end of a plain white livery! I’m sure it’ll grow on me, but it seems very plain and certainly nothing worthy of all the hype of making a big deal of announcing it in the way suggested?

Maybe they put the logos at the end of the trains? That could work.

It may be the case that they put the logos at each end to begin with, and paint a fuller livery when the Pendolinos go for their full refurbishment?

Seems likely, I think they are doing a similar thing with the class 350s.

Does any normal passenger even notice a name halfway down the train?

Probably not but it's usually plastered all over the internal areas. Regardless of how members feel on this forum, brand actually does make a difference, the world is full of it.

Moving on.... I'd rather they sort the interior out.

Sorry, I meant the naming rather than the operator branding.

As has been mentioned already, 'Avanti' is particularly suprising when all recent franchises have been named in relation to the areas they serve, e.g. GWR, LNER, SWR, TfW.

I still wouldn't be surprised if 'Avanti' is just the name of the joint operation between First and Trenitalia, similar to 'Govia'.

With the current west midlands franchise, the West Midlands Trains logo was leaked/revealled in advance, but it was much later that we saw the actual branding for WMR & LNR.

The London concessions are also another example where the operators (MTR Crossrail and Arriva Rail London) have different branding from the actual services.

The logos for Arriva Rail London, MTR Crossrail, West Midlands Trains and Govia Thameslink Railway all may be seen as slightly plain, and these never featured on official branding for the services.

So I wouldn't rule out something like 'LMS' or 'West Coast Railway', operated by Avanti Trains.

As the Govia Thameslink Railway and West Midlands Trains franchises split into multiple brands, I expect First/Trenitalia would choose to operate HS2 as a separate brand.

They are in the process of sending out the new travel / staff ID cards which are due to land by the end of the month.
