Avanti is the name of the new trains, had confirmation from Virgin Staff yesterday, think someone was having a play around to trip people up
Unlikely.
  • Staff rumours are almost never true.
  • If Avanti was new name for the Pendolinos, why would FirstGroup register a domain for it and add 'West Coast' at the end?
  • Pendolino already has brand value, so why get rid of it?
  • If Avanti was the new name for the Pendolinos, they would have also made one for the Voyagers... which hasn't happened.

Nothing has been announced to staff either, lots of speculation but full details will be 27/11

What I don't understand is why the proposed brand name was not required to be submitted as part of the bid, as it would seem to form an important part of the offering

Probably already mentioned somewhere in the last 18 pages, but Trenitalia is too close to genitalia.

I know it's Italian, and where the name stems from etc etc... but still.

Chitern006 said nothing about Pendolinos. They were talking about the new trains that are being ordered.

On a separate note, it amuses me that the West Coast Partnership website states that the new trains will "replace the unpopular Voyager trains". The similarly worded First group page for the franchise uses the word "outdated" instead: Funnily enough, I can't see Crosscountry referring to their fleet of identical trains in the same way any time soon!

Still crossing my fingers for LMS!

As in “the next train to depart from platform 4 will be the LMS Avanti service to Liverpool Lime Street.”

Combining the heritage with the modern seems the way to go IMHO.

Does anyone know if the De-branding is occurring at a certain rate or place? E.g. two per day?

Of course it was, I've never encountered a franchise invitiation to tender where it wasn't scored as part of the bid (Concessions, such as London Overground, might be different): In the West Coast partnership Invtiation to Tender, branding requirements are covered by Sub plan 3.1: Marketing and Branding between pages 107 and 111:

a better announcement would be “this is the TIME service to Liverpool Lime St”

customers don’t give a monkeys who runs the trains or what colour it’s in.

Interesting, as Ive been told the 28th!

Nope it's 1730 on the 27th November.

Brand Launch (from the horses mouth).

Another topic that’s been the source of much speculation and intrigue is the brand for the new WCML operation.
You’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to wait too much longer to find out what it will be, with the brand launch taking place at 1730 on 27 November in a Central Birmingham location.

That reminds me of a trip to Genoa, years back when I was in my teens. A couple of 'ladies' walked up to us one evening, encouraging us to 'Avanti, Avanti...come on boys, have a good time!'

When many operator-specific tickets are now sold, of course customers care which company operates their train...

Found something strange by accident, type 'avanti west coast' on the above link and look at 'assistance for disabled passengers'
I think you'll hit the nail on the head with that one!

AVANTI WEST COAST

That seems sensible if true; Trenitalia get to do their Italian thing while passengers will remember the West Coast name from the Virgin West Coast period (ie when they also had East Coast); should make for an easy transition.

I wouldn't be surprised if that website is changed quite quickly.. :D More ironic I guess is that lets not forget that EMR is Abellio..

As of 10 November this is giving a 'server not found' error, so perhaps it was made live by mistake.

Yes, this has evidently been pulled as a result of it being discovered so it would indeed suggest AWC was the brand going forward!
