Chitern006 said nothing about Pendolinos. They were talking about the new trains that are being ordered.

On a separate note, it amuses me that the West Coast Partnership website states that the new trains will "replace the unpopular Voyager trains". The similarly worded First group page for the franchise uses the word "outdated" instead: Funnily enough, I can't see Crosscountry referring to their fleet of identical trains in the same way any time soon!
The staff even said they hated Voyagers!!

Still, most of my points still apply. Why would they make a website named after their new train? It's not like Trenitalia is a preservation group! :D

That reminds me of a trip to Genoa, years back when I was in my teens. A couple of 'ladies' walked up to us one evening, encouraging us to 'Avanti, Avanti...come on boys, have a good time!'
'Avanti!', directed by Billy wilder was a 1972 film starring Jack Lemon and Juliet Mills, who can be seen topless in the final scenes.

I think the Pendolinos will stay largely white, with a logo at each end rather than a new look along the whole train. It looks like it's going to be a South-West-North triangular logo, which I guess encompasses a lot of the route but not all. I think a simple arrow logo would have been better pointing west <-

Things pointing to the left are seen as 'backwards' though, in left-to-right reading cultures.

The 5.30 launch time is just right for a live on the spot report in the teatime news bulletins about franchising, how the political parties are squaring up on rail franchising in the election, and the end of Virgin and for Peter Plisner to do something for Midlands Today at 6.30.

Even an election themed news item about franchising is worth thousands in getting the new brand advertised on the BBC.

The Intercity West Coast franchise is much bigger than a local Midlands news bulletin.
Not to mention the HS2 dimension which is bound to come up (if it hasn't by then in the election campaigning).

Of course it's bigger than the Midlands, I mentioned Peter Plisner because it is being hosted in the Midlands so he will rock up as well. It's clearly at 5.30 so they can be ready to do a live piece for the national news bulletins tied into the election.

Traditional Japanese reads right to left, Northwest Airlines had a big presence in Japan for years (including a Tokyo hub) despite their logo of an arrow pointing Northwest (I.e. to the left)

Which sort-of proves the point. The company does well with a left arrow in a place where they read the opposite way to us.
option's point also applies to photographs, to an extent. Magazine covers usually (not always) look more balanced when they put a picture of the train facing right.

Maybe "Pendolino" isn't considered Italian enough?

Still plenty of Virgin branding visible today, even on the interiors of "whitened" Pendos.
Well, if it's anything like First's efforts on SWR Virgin branding will still be evident after a year..

Talking of removing Virgin logos., in the Pendo. toilets the wall is covered by a vinyl of a country scene (a field of poppies is one) and, in the sky, a Virgin hot-air balloon. The balloon seems to be part of the main vinyl, i.e., not stuck over it.
Now here's a trivial but puzzling thing. The Virgin EC toilets were the same; but now, while the country scenes are still there, there is no Virgin hot-air balloon. The removal of the balloon is of course not surprising; but it does seem a lot of effort to replace all the vinyls - around corners and under attachments, rather than just remove them completely. It's almost like someone wanted to show Virgin never existed on EC...

LNER put a square sticker of clouds over the balloon in the loos on board. They didn't replace it all.

Thanks for the quick replies about the balloons - relieved that I'm not the only one to notice these things. The ones I've looked at definitely had new vinyls.
Has anyone noticed how the Virgin branding on the 1st class water bottles has shrunk? Used to be a Pendo on still and a Voyager on sparkling (sometimes, all Pendo) but now its just a faint pale green logo in the top RH corner. Come to think of it, is Tilting Cider still available? (I'm not allowed alcohol on Virgin).

Virgin Trains Traincrew messrooms, the Virgin red has started to be over painted in a dark blue colour.
Don't know if the blue will be used on First Trenitalia run stations.
Things are changing very quickly.

I don't know what's a more "dated" colour, Virgin red or First Trenitalia dark blue...

A quick Google for "avanti west coast" turns up said logo: https://twitter.com/KDSHawker/status/1193073915855290369/photo/1

Could of course be a well-made fake.
