Hi - I'm not as used to local travel in London area as I once was so would welcome a 2nd opinion!

Am I correct to think in the following example for: 2 people, tickets bought with 2 together railcard, are cheaper than using Oyster PAYG?

weekday, circa 17.00 departure, St Pancras to Sidcup not using the underground. Single Journey.

Oyster PAYG: 2x£5.30 peak single fare = £10.60 (no railcard discount with 2 together on Oyster fares)
vs
Railcard: ((2x£6.60) - 34% railcard discount) = £8.70

BUT
off peak the reverse would be true:

Railcard: ((2x£6.60) - 34% railcard discount) = £8.70 (fare the same as no off peak fare)
vs
Oyster PAYG: 2x£3.50 off peak single fare = £7 (no railcard discount with 2 together)

Thanks

I agree, your sums look correct. The reason being that there are no Off Peak paper tickets available.

If both journeys are the same day and after 0930 then off-peak day travelcards will be £8.60 each.

Thanks all for replies, also thanks MikeWh - sorry, no they would be on different days, I should have made that clear, but your info is useful all the same, cheers.

If you are travelling down to St Pancras, it might be worth your while looking at prices of a through ticket to Sidcup. Through tickets can often be substantially cheaper than buying a ticket to London and then using a separate ticket or PAYG Oyster to get across London. For example, in my case, the cost of an off-peak return to East Croydon is the same as the cost of an off-peak return to Euston - i.e. both the tube and the trip from Victoria to Croydon and back is effectively free.

Yes, good point of course, tho not when you want 1st class on the intercity leg I usually find (1st class on the thameslink rear compartment being free for some of the onward leg). As soon as you tend to ask for 1st advance beyond St P I find the price shoots up and split tickets become the better option.
